Bahrain Reviews UAE’s Leading Correctional and Rehabilitation Practices

A Bahraini ministerial delegation has visited the Federal Correctional and Punitive Institutions Department to study the UAE's innovative approaches to inmate rehabilitation and community reintegration.
A delegation from Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior has undertaken an official working visit to the Federal Correctional and Punitive Institutions Department in the Northern Emirates, seeking to understand and learn from the UAE’s progressive correctional systems and rehabilitation methodologies.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Bahraini representatives to examine the operational frameworks and best practices employed by the department in inmate care, rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society. The delegation received comprehensive briefings on the key services and contemporary approaches that underpin the UAE’s correctional philosophy, which prioritises reform alongside security.
A particular focus of the visit was the implementation of alternative, community-based and green sanctions—innovative programmes designed to rehabilitate and empower inmates whilst enabling them to develop into productive, active members of society. These progressive initiatives represent a modern shift away from purely punitive measures towards holistic rehabilitation strategies that benefit both individuals and communities.
Such exchanges between regional partners reflect the UAE’s commitment to knowledge-sharing and collaborative development of correctional standards. The visit strengthened bilateral cooperation and facilitated the exchange of expertise in developing robust correctional and rehabilitation systems that enhance security and safety whilst protecting the broader community.
