DIHAD and Zambia forge transformative healthcare partnership with Medical City initiative

A landmark memorandum of understanding between DIHAD Sustainable Organisation and the Government of Zambia signals a profound commitment to establishing an integrated medical ecosystem that will advance specialised healthcare, education and research capabilities across southern Africa.

A significant milestone in UAE–Zambian cooperation has been reached with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to establish Zambia Medical City, a comprehensive healthcare development that promises to reshape medical provision across the region. The agreement was formalised during the UAE–Zambia Business Forum in Abu Dhabi, witnessed by Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia.

Eng. Khaled Al Attar, Director-General of DIHAD Sustainable Organisation, and Hon. Prof. Roma Chilengi, Minister of Health of the Republic of Zambia, signed the historic accord, which represents a confluence of ambitions to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, foster professional development and create sustainable systems that will endure for generations to come.

The envisioned Zambia Medical City embodies an integrated approach to healthcare development, bringing together specialised medical services, advanced hospital facilities, university education and comprehensive training infrastructure within a single ecosystem. The project will establish specialised medical centres alongside teaching and research facilities, creating an environment where clinical practice, academic excellence and scientific investigation advance in harmonious collaboration.

The initiative responds to pressing healthcare needs across Zambia by expanding access to specialised medical services, cultivating professional expertise and building a healthcare system characterised by resilience and sustainability. Beyond its immediate medical objectives, the project is anticipated to generate employment opportunities and catalyse growth in medical tourism, thereby contributing meaningfully to Zambia’s broader economic development ambitions.

Speaking on the significance of the partnership, Al Attar observed that the initiative transcends conventional development models, instead fostering the creation of enduring systems that generate sustained value for communities. He emphasised the accord’s alignment with the UAE’s established commitment to constructive international partnerships that advance sustainable development globally.

The memorandum further consolidates bilateral relations between the UAE and Zambia, nations whose diplomatic connections span more than five decades. The partnership encompasses broadened cooperation in economic development, renewable energy advancement and infrastructure expansion, reflecting mutual recognition of shared development priorities and regional aspirations.

For DIHAD Sustainable Organisation, the undertaking exemplifies its strategic mission to cultivate long-term development through collaborative frameworks, cross-national knowledge transfer and capacity enhancement initiatives. The organisation remains dedicated to supporting programmes that strengthen institutional capabilities, nurture specialised professional expertise and deliver enduring benefits to communities across the developing world.
