Dubai’s healthcare sector has demonstrated remarkable momentum throughout the first half of 2026, affirming the emirate’s position as a thriving centre for medical excellence and healthcare innovation. The Dubai Health Authority has released a comprehensive report detailing the sector’s expansion, revealing impressive increases across multiple dimensions of healthcare provision and regulatory stewardship.

The number of licensed health facilities in Dubai has ascended to 5,931 establishments in the first half of 2026, representing a 7% increase from 5,541 facilities during the corresponding period in 2025. This expansion underscores the sector’s vitality and the sustained confidence of healthcare providers in Dubai’s regulatory environment and market potential.

The healthcare workforce has similarly expanded, with licensed health professionals now numbering 70,566, demonstrating a growth rate of 6.5% compared with 66,277 practitioners in the first half of 2025. The composition reflects a diverse and accomplished professional landscape, comprising 22,639 male and 47,927 female healthcare professionals. Notably, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and dermatology emerged as the medical specialties experiencing the most substantial growth during this period.

Home care services have experienced particularly pronounced expansion, with licensed facilities increasing by 22.7% to reach 249 centres, compared with 203 in the equivalent period of the preceding year. This expansion reflects evolving healthcare delivery models and the sector’s commitment to comprehensive patient support. Pharmaceutical services have equally flourished, with pharmacy establishments rising by 6.8% to 1,794 locations from 1,680 previously.

The complementary and alternative medicine sector has grown by 8.1%, expanding from 99 to 107 licensed centres, whilst other healthcare facility categories, encompassing medical complexes and optical centres, have recorded growth of 9.9%, reaching 1,903 establishments compared with 1,731 in the first half of 2025.

Regulatory oversight has intensified in concert with the sector’s expansion, demonstrating the Dubai Health Authority’s commitment to maintaining exceptional standards. The Authority conducted 5,378 inspection and monitoring visits in the first half of 2026, representing a significant 36.3% increase from 3,946 visits during the same period in 2025. These visits comprised 3,154 on-site inspections and 2,224 remote audits and assessments. Compliance with regulatory standards amongst health facilities has correspondingly improved, rising to 80% from 75% in the first half of 2025.

Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority, observed that the sector’s continued advancement reflects Dubai’s healthcare system maturation and its capacity to satisfy community healthcare requirements through expanded premium services, professional talent attraction, and the establishment of an investment framework that prioritises care quality and sustainability. The Authority remains dedicated to cultivating an increasingly sophisticated regulatory environment that enables specialised healthcare growth whilst reinforcing Dubai’s prominence as a destination for healthcare investment and advanced medical innovation.
