Dubai Health Board Advances Strategic Healthcare Expansion with Cancer Hospital and Diabetes Centre

The Dubai Health Board of Directors has reviewed significant progress on two landmark medical facilities designed to elevate healthcare provision across the Emirate, whilst strengthening support for healthcare sector employees.

In a meeting convened at Dubai Health headquarters and chaired by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dubai Health, the Board reviewed substantial developments across two transformative healthcare projects that will enhance medical services throughout the Emirate.

The Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital, a landmark addition to Dubai’s healthcare landscape, continues to advance with impressive construction progress and the development of comprehensive global partnerships. The Board noted the appointment of a Chair of Cancer Care, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to delivering patient and family centred care that meets the highest international standards, with a treatment experience designed to elevate every aspect of the patient journey.

The Board also reviewed progress on the new Diabetes Center, approved in November 2024 and anticipated to open in early 2025. This facility will meaningfully expand access to preventive care and advance treatment programmes whilst promoting early detection and fostering healthier lifestyles throughout the community.

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum welcomed the Board members and acknowledged their dedication to advancing strategic initiatives that support the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which envisions the development of vibrant, healthy and inclusive communities in alignment with the city’s continued growth. He emphasised that developing future-ready healthcare infrastructure remains essential to meeting the Emirate’s evolving population needs and fulfilling the leadership’s vision of a sustainable, integrated health system that places people and their quality of life at the forefront of institutional priorities.

H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Board, articulated the commitment to building an integrated academic health system that unites clinical care, medical education and research, fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge advancement. He underscored the importance of developing specialised medical talent and advancing research initiatives that translate findings into practical applications, ultimately improving diagnosis, treatment and patient outcomes.

Following the formal review, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Dubai Health and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment. This agreement facilitates Dubai Health employees’ access to housing services through streamlined procedures, direct communication channels and targeted awareness workshops. By supporting employees with housing stability, the initiative aims to attract and retain talented national professionals within Dubai’s healthcare sector, enabling them to develop their careers whilst contributing meaningfully to the future of healthcare provision in the Emirate.
