Dubai’s economy demonstrates resilience with AED473 billion GDP in first half of 2026

Strategic sectors including financial services, healthcare and construction drive continued diversification of the emirate's economic base amid evolving global conditions
Dubai’s economic performance in the first half of 2026 reflects the continued strength and adaptability of an economy purposefully constructed to navigate periods of significant global uncertainty. The emirate’s Gross Domestic Product reached approximately AED473 billion in real terms, demonstrating the resilience of a diversified productive base across multiple high-value-added sectors.
The results, released by the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment at Digital Dubai, underscore the emirate’s capacity to maintain momentum across strategic activities even as the global economic environment undergoes rapid transformation. This achievement speaks to the deliberate cultivation of an economy sufficiently broad and sophisticated to offset challenges within particular sectors through concurrent expansion elsewhere.
Financial and insurance activities emerged as a particularly vibrant engine of growth, recording impressive real expansion of 8.8 per cent, with value added rising to approximately AED65.9 billion. This sector’s contribution to overall GDP has strengthened considerably, reaching 14 per cent compared with 12.5 per cent in the corresponding period of 2025, affirming Dubai’s established position as a distinguished hub for capital and enterprise.
The human health and social work sector demonstrated exceptional dynamism, achieving real growth of 14.3 per cent, whilst information and communication activities continued their measured expansion at 2.7 per cent in real terms, reflecting the flourishing digital economy. Construction activities advanced by 2.4 per cent in real terms, with value added reaching approximately AED33.2 billion, whilst the real estate sector recorded growth of 5.4 per cent at current prices.
The three largest contributors to real GDP during this period were wholesale and retail trade at 20.5 per cent, financial and insurance activities at 14 per cent, and real estate activities at 11.8 per cent, followed by transportation and storage at 10.7 per cent. This composition illustrates the breadth and maturity of Dubai’s economic foundation.
His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, observed that Dubai’s performance reflects an economy built to navigate global uncertainty, whilst the continued year-on-year growth achieved across strategic sectors demonstrates the strength of the emirate’s economic fundamentals. The government remains focused on advancing the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, with emphasis on accelerating investment, innovation and talent development.
The results underscore the critical importance of economic diversification in providing resilience. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of Digital Dubai, emphasised that this diversity represents the outcome of a long-term vision guiding investment across new and established sectors. Digital transformation and artificial intelligence continue to serve as essential drivers for enhancing competitiveness and efficiency across all economic activities.
