Dubai’s Energy Authority and Airports Forge Deeper Sustainability Partnership

Dubai's Energy Authority and Airports Forge Deeper Sustainability Partnership

Senior leadership from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Dubai Airports convene to strengthen collaborative efforts around infrastructure efficiency and environmental stewardship.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has engaged in substantive discussions with Paul Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Airports, to advance the strategic partnership between these two pivotal institutions and foster enhanced cooperation on matters of mutual importance.

The meeting centred upon an examination of innovative projects and solutions designed to cultivate world-class infrastructure of exceptional efficiency, responsive to future ambitions whilst simultaneously advancing sustainable growth across the emirate.

Mr Al Tayer emphasised the paramount strategic significance of Dubai Airports, particularly the new Al Maktoum International Airport and its envisioned expansion initiatives, within DEWA’s comprehensive strategic framework. This partnership aligns closely with the vision and directives of the emirate’s leadership and advances the ambitious objective of establishing these aviation facilities as the world’s most sustainable airports, progressively reducing carbon emissions in pursuit of Net Zero targets and transforming infrastructure into an exemplary model of energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.

The collaboration between DEWA and Dubai Airports represents a pioneering demonstration of how energy efficiency and sustainability can be consolidated at the institutional level, establishing benchmarks for the region. Mr Al Tayer underscored the formidable capabilities of DEWA’s infrastructure network and its considerable capacity to address the exacting demands of modern airport operations with exceptional efficiency and unwavering reliability.

Central to these endeavours is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which has achieved a current capacity of 4,660 megawatts, with expansion targets exceeding 8,000 megawatts by 2030. This remarkable renewable energy asset substantially underpins Dubai’s burgeoning green economy and directly supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, through which the emirate aspires to source 100 per cent of its energy requirements from clean sources by mid-century.
