Emirati Bedouin Heritage Takes Centre Stage at El Jadida Horse Show

The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority presents an immersive cultural experience through Bait Al Sha'r at Morocco's prestigious equestrian event
The 17th El Jadida Horse Show in Morocco has become the setting for a remarkable cultural showcase, as the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority presents Bait Al Sha’r, an authentically appointed traditional Bedouin tent that has captivated visitors to the UAE Pavilion with its evocative portrayal of desert life and Emirati customs.
This meticulously crafted representation of traditional Emirati existence embodies the profound connection between the desert environment and the values that have flourished across generations. Within the tent’s gracefully appointed interior, visitors encounter furnishings and artefacts that narrate the aesthetic and practical wisdom of Bedouin life, while a traditionally adorned majlis, embellished with woven textiles, Arabic coffee utensils and carefully selected household items, eloquently conveys the distinguished hospitality for which Emirati society is renowned.
The majlis experience has particularly resonated with visitors, offering an intimate understanding of the cultural practises that define Emirati social traditions. Guests gain insight into Bait Al Sha’r’s multifaceted significance within Bedouin communities, recognising it not merely as a dwelling but as a vital gathering space where meaningful conversation flourishes and social connections are cultivated and reinforced.
A series of interactive Gahwa workshops constitute a highlight of the experience, inviting visitors to explore the refined customs of preparing and presenting Arabic coffee. These educational sessions illuminate the specific utensils employed, the graceful etiquette of hospitality, and the protocols of welcoming guests within Emirati tradition. The incorporation of traditional incense and fragrances further enriches the sensory experience, illuminating their considerable role within the practice of Emirati hospitality whilst introducing visitors to the diverse varieties and their established applications.
The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority’s participation demonstrates its steadfast commitment to safeguarding and celebrating Emirati cultural heritage whilst fostering meaningful cultural dialogue. This presentation reinforces the enduring bonds of brotherhood between the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Morocco, extending beyond equestrian pursuits to encompass the deeper dimensions of shared cultural appreciation.
Bait Al Sha’r forms part of a comprehensive heritage programme at the prestigious equestrian event, presented through a collaborative partnership between the Emirates Arabian Horse Society and the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority. The broader programming showcases traditional folk arts, accomplished handicrafts and engaging cultural activities that weave together the magnificent heritage of Arabian horses with equestrian traditions and the authentic culture of the Emirates.
