Sixty representatives from across the emirate's charitable organisations, government and private sector gathered to strengthen collective impact and shape the future of giving in the UAE.
The philanthropic landscape of the UAE gathered recently under the theme Building the Future of Philanthropy Together, as Erth Zayed Philanthropies hosted the 2026 UAE Strategic Philanthropy Network gathering. The convening brought together some sixty participants from across the emirate’s charitable sector, representing a meaningful moment of collective reflection and strategic planning for those committed to lasting social change.
The gathering marked a significant transition for the Network, with Erth Zayed Philanthropies assuming responsibility for convening its members, building on the foundation established by the Office of Development and Martyrs Families Affairs. This evolution reflects the growing maturity and institutional strength of the UAE’s philanthropic ecosystem, as the sector continues to advance its capacity for meaningful impact.
Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Secretary-General of Erth Zayed Philanthropies, opened the meeting with a keynote address that grounded the gathering in the UAE’s enduring values of generosity and solidarity. He spoke to the essential nature of cooperation in creating change that truly endures, emphasising that the future of philanthropy rests on the sector’s ability to unite its collective experience, expertise and resources in pursuit of tangible, long-term transformation.
Three focused sessions structured the day’s substantive discussions. Mobilizing Capital for Lasting Social Change explored how philanthropic organisations might strengthen their institutional capabilities and refine their approaches to measuring impact. Innovation with Purpose examined how purposeful innovation might serve the sector’s evolving needs, whilst Strategic Alignment and International Engagement considered how collaborative funding might be expanded and partnerships strengthened across sectors and borders.
Throughout these conversations, participants identified shared priorities for the sector’s future. Investing in talent, empowering young people, sharing knowledge and expertise, and expanding international partnerships emerged as areas where collective action might yield particular benefit. The discussions reflected a sector increasingly alert to the interconnected nature of social challenges and the imperative of working together across organisational boundaries.
Dr. Al Khaili reflected on the significance of this collective approach: “Advancing philanthropy requires us to look beyond individual initiatives and work collectively towards a unified purpose.” He positioned Erth Zayed Philanthropies’ role as one of convener and connector, committed to bringing partners together and combining their strengths. As the organisation looks forward, it aims to build a network capable of responding to present needs whilst preparing for the challenges that lie ahead.
This gathering represents more than a moment of strategic alignment; it reflects a maturing philanthropic sector in Abu Dhabi, one increasingly conscious of its power to create meaningful change when working together. As we reported in September, Erth Zayed Philanthropies opened its Abu Dhabi headquarters under royal patronage, a milestone that speaks to the organisation’s commitment to advancing humanitarian values across the UAE and beyond.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
The convening of the UAE’s philanthropic sector reflects Abu Dhabi’s position as a centre of charitable leadership and social responsibility. By bringing together representatives from across the emirate’s diverse philanthropic landscape, the gathering strengthens the institutional infrastructure through which Abu Dhabi’s values of generosity translate into measurable impact. This collective approach enhances the sector’s capacity to respond thoughtfully and effectively to social challenges.
For Abu Dhabi’s people, this deepening collaboration among philanthropic organisations, government entities and the private sector creates new possibilities for addressing shared priorities. The emphasis on talent development, youth empowerment and knowledge sharing reflects a sector committed not only to immediate impact but to building the capabilities and partnerships necessary for sustainable, long-term change across the emirate and beyond.
