Etihad Rail Commences Passenger Service Trial Operations Ahead of Historic Launch
The national railway operator has initiated trial runs on its Abu Dhabi to Dubai corridor, testing operational readiness and passenger experience across three strategically positioned stations before tomorrow's official inauguration of nationwide rail services.
Etihad Rail has commenced trial operations of its passenger train service, marking a significant milestone in the UAE’s integrated transportation infrastructure. The trial runs precede the official launch of passenger rail services on 30th September 2026, reflecting the operator’s commitment to ensuring optimal readiness, operational excellence and passenger safety across the national network.
The trial route encompasses three stations: Abu Dhabi Station, Mohamed bin Zayed City Station, and Al Yalayis Station in Dubai. This connection strengthens regional connectivity whilst facilitating seamless passenger movement between the emirates through a comprehensive and well-coordinated transport system.
During this critical testing phase, Etihad Rail is evaluating station operations, train systems and route conditions. The trial also assesses passenger experience quality, travel accessibility and integration with complementary transport networks, whilst validating various operational procedures essential for sustained service excellence.
Strategic Connectivity and Integration
Adhraa Almansoori, Executive Director of Commercial and Support at Etihad Rail Mobility, emphasised that the Abu Dhabi-Al Yalayis route represents a transformative addition to the national transport infrastructure. Al Yalayis Station, the third railway station in Dubai, was delivered ahead of schedule in anticipation of the network’s official commencement.
The service builds upon the successful Abu Dhabi-Fujairah route launch on 30th June, establishing a comprehensive network. Tomorrow’s inauguration will introduce 10 daily journeys between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, complemented by six journeys serving the Abu Dhabi-Fujairah corridor.
Al Yalayis Station’s strategic positioning includes direct connectivity to Dubai Metro through a 400-metre pedestrian bridge, enabling passengers to access Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station and subsequently utilise the Red Line for broader emirate-wide travel. This integration exemplifies the multi-modal approach characterising the national transport vision.

Etihad Rail stations offer integrated transport solutions encompassing car parking facilities, taxi services, bus connections and private transport operators, enabling passengers to complete journeys efficiently from origin to destination.
