A celebration of community, heritage and active living unfolds across the Emirates as the 2026 series draws participants into the heart of traditional village culture.
Across four emirates in late October, thousands of runners ventured beyond the familiar urban landscape to experience the authentic character of Emirati villages. The Emirates Villages Run Series 2026 brought together approximately 4,000 participants in a series of events held in Qidfa in Fujairah, Lahbab in Dubai, Wadi Al Helo in Sharjah, and Falaj Al Mualla in Umm Al Qaiwain. More than 3,000 additional spectators of all ages joined these gatherings, transforming each village into a vibrant meeting place that wove sport, culture and community engagement together.
The series, now in its second consecutive year, embodies an elegant fusion of physical wellness with cultural discovery. As we reported in our coverage of the series’ opening in Qidfa, the initiative celebrates a distinctive vision: “Discover Emirates Villages – One Run at a Time.” Participants found themselves immersed in the natural beauty and lived heritage of these settlements, engaging with residents and uncovering the stories and experiences that define these communities.
The gatherings extended far beyond the races themselves. Educational pavilions introduced visitors to the houbara bustard and its significance within the UAE’s natural heritage, courtesy of the International Fund for Houbara Conservation. Farmers’ markets curated by the National Agricultural Centre created direct pathways between local producers and the public, celebrating the quality and craftsmanship of Emirati agricultural products whilst strengthening the economic vitality of these villages.
This model reflects a broader commitment to community wellness and sustainable local development. The UAE continues to strengthen community sports initiatives nationwide, uniting citizens in pursuit of healthier, more connected lives. The Emirates Villages Run Series demonstrates how physical activity can become a vehicle for cultural preservation and economic opportunity, encouraging residents of all ages to participate in activities that strengthen both body and community bonds.
The series will continue its journey through the remaining emirates. Races are scheduled for Masfout in Ajman on 14th November and Al Rams in Ras Al Khaimah on 28th November, before concluding in Al Shuwaib in Abu Dhabi on 5th December. The Emirates Council for Balanced Development facilitates participation across all segments of society, inviting runners and spectators to become part of this celebration of Emirati heritage and communal spirit.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi stands as the final stage of this year’s series, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to experience Al Shuwaib village on 5th December. This concluding event reinforces Abu Dhabi’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its villages whilst promoting healthy, active lifestyles among its communities. Through such initiatives, the emirate demonstrates its dedication to honouring cultural heritage whilst embracing modern approaches to wellness and community development.
The series exemplifies how Abu Dhabi integrates sport, culture and local economic development into a coherent vision of quality of life. By drawing thousands of participants into its villages, Abu Dhabi creates pathways for both residents and visitors to understand and appreciate the deep roots of Emirati culture, strengthening social bonds and supporting the livelihoods of those in these communities.
