UAE Advances Sustainable Community Sports Model to Elevate Quality of Life

The United Arab Emirates continues to cement community sports as a fundamental pillar of its vision to enhance quality of life and advance sustainable development throughout the nation. Through coordinated endeavours spanning the emirates, a comprehensive framework of initiatives encourages physical activity, promotes healthy lifestyles and catalyses unprecedented levels of public participation in sporting pursuits.
Sports councils and federations, working in harmonious collaboration with clubs and relevant authorities, have orchestrated an expanding constellation of programmes designed to serve all age groups. These initiatives ingeniously interweave sporting activities with health awareness campaigns, medical screenings and preventive healthcare measures, creating an ecosystem where physical wellness and informed health consciousness develop in tandem.
Running events have emerged as particularly significant platforms for community engagement across the emirates, demonstrating remarkable growth in participation and underscoring the profound role that physical activity plays in cultivating public health and wellbeing. The Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah sports councils have each introduced sophisticated community programmes that not only encourage regular exercise but also develop sporting skills and identify emerging talent from within their communities.
Among the notable contemporary initiatives is the Sheikh Zayed Summer Festival 2026, hosted in Abu Dhabi’s Al Wathba area, which presents an array of sporting, fitness and health awareness activities designed to engage the community. Similarly, the Emirates Villages Run Series 2026, now in its second edition, features seven races distributed across the nation’s seven emirates through to 5th December, serving as a powerful catalyst for active lifestyles and community participation throughout the year.
The UAE Sports for All Federation continues its vital work in organising community races and sporting events nationwide, steadily broadening the foundation of participation in physical activity across all demographics.
Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for Sports Development and Competitiveness at the Ministry of Sports, observed that the UAE has successfully transformed community sports initiatives into dynamic platforms that cultivate ambition, excellence and sportsmanship amongst younger generations. The Assistant Undersecretary highlighted that robust public engagement with programmes organised by sports councils and federations represents compelling evidence of their effectiveness in advancing health, wellbeing and quality of life across the nation.
Saeed Ali Al Ajal, President of the UAE Sports for All Federation, emphasised that sport occupies a central position in raising health awareness, developing individual capabilities and nurturing emerging talent. The federation’s nationwide programmes, he noted, are thoughtfully tailored to serve diverse community groups, with people positioned at the very centre of efforts to encourage physical activity and foster the spirit of teamwork.
Jassim Al Doukhi, Head of the Team Sports Section at the Sports Affairs and Development Department of the Sharjah Sports Council, observed that the UAE has established a leading model for community sports programmes that encourage regular exercise and sustainable health practices. He attributed the measurably growing participation in sporting events to an increasingly aware public that recognises the profound importance of physical activity and its transformative contribution to healthier, more active communities.
