Gulf Giants Development triumph in DP World ILT20 Development Tournament final
Gulf Giants Development claimed the fourth edition championship with a four-wicket victory over Desert Vipers Development in a compelling encounter at the ICC Academy in Dubai.
Gulf Giants Development have been crowned champions of the fourth edition of the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament, securing a commanding four-wicket victory against Desert Vipers Development in an enthralling final at the ICC Academy in Dubai.
Electing to bat first, Desert Vipers Development were restricted to 143 runs from 19.5 overs. Harshit Kaushik led the innings with a commanding 42 from 32 deliveries, striking two boundaries and three maximums, whilst Khuzaima Tanveer provided late impetus with a brisk 30 off 17 balls, including three sixes. Israr Ahmad contributed an aggressive 24 from 12 deliveries in the opening partnership. Gulf Giants’ bowling proved decisive, with Aayan Khan taking 3 for 33, whilst Hazret Luqman secured 2 for 30. Haider Razzaq’s economical spell of 1 for 14 further constrained the opposition’s total.
The tournament’s individual accolades recognised outstanding performances throughout the competition. Sagar Kalyan earned the Player of the Tournament award following an exceptional season as the leading run-scorer with 280 runs across seven innings, maintaining a strike rate of 189 and recording three half-centuries. Desert Vipers Development’s Wali Muhammad Afridi claimed the leading wicket-taker honour, capturing 15 wickets throughout seven innings.
Gulf Giants Development captain Adeeb Usmani reflected on the significance of the triumph. “It means a lot to me and to the team,” he remarked. “This year, the domestic standard of the DP World ILT20 is very high. Sagar Kalyan, Anshh Taandon and Tanish Suri did outstandingly with the bat, while Sohaib Khan stepped up in the final and played a very important innings. Our bowlers also did an extraordinary job, and that is why we were able to win the final. The management made sure we did not feel the pressure of playing a final, so we approached it like a normal game, and the boys were able to express themselves and perform.”
Desert Vipers Development captain Vriitya Aravind acknowledged his team’s commendable effort. “I think we were 20 runs short,” he reflected. “The fast bowlers did their best to keep us in the game and showed that you can never give up. We got two early wickets and there was always hope that we were going to win. We kept believing until the last ball.”
