The Abu Dhabi holding company reports a transformative nine-month performance, with revenues surging 33.2 per cent and profit after tax nearly doubling, reflecting the strength of its sprawling portfolio across energy, hospitality, real estate and financial services.
The reach and resilience of Abu Dhabi’s economic ambitions crystallised in IHC’s latest financial statement, which revealed a company in expansive stride. For the first nine months of 2026, the holding company reported revenue of AED100.5 billion, a gain of 33.2 per cent from the comparable period a year earlier. Profit after tax climbed even more steeply, rising 87 per cent to AED32.5 billion.
Gross profit expanded to AED25.3 billion, an increase of 35.4 per cent, whilst profit before tax reached AED35.1 billion. Earnings per share nearly tripled, climbing 129.6 per cent to AED9.71, and the company achieved a return on equity of 20.8 per cent. These figures spoke to something deeper than quarterly performance: they reflected the maturation of a diversified conglomerate firing across multiple cylinders simultaneously.
The growth was remarkably broad-based. Seven of IHC’s eight business segments recorded higher revenue, underscoring the portfolio’s resilience. Real Estate and Construction remained the largest revenue generator at AED33.3 billion, up 12.8 per cent, whilst Marine and Dredging contributed AED22.4 billion, gaining 3.7 per cent. Energy and Mining delivered the most striking performance, revenue surging 295.1 per cent to AED19.3 billion, driven by expansion in metals and hydrocarbon trading. Hospitality and Leisure, a segment that as we reported in our coverage of the UAE’s tourism sector surge, continues to benefit from regional demand, increased 93.7 per cent to AED7.8 billion. Financial Services rose 53.7 per cent to AED4.4 billion, Food grew 25.7 per cent to AED5.1 billion, and Technology climbed 20.5 per cent to AED2.9 billion.
The profit story deserved particular attention. Investment income within Financial Services bolstered the bottom line considerably, whilst the seven non-financial segments collectively increased profit by 37.5 per cent to AED12.6 billion. International revenue more than doubled, a statement of geographic diversification that extended IHC’s reach well beyond Abu Dhabi’s shores.
Total assets grew to AED485.9 billion, up 13.4 per cent, whilst total equity rose 9.9 per cent to AED275.4 billion. Owners’ equity increased 11.5 per cent to AED170.5 billion. The company held AED76.6 billion in cash and bank balances, affording it considerable flexibility. Net debt increased to AED30.4 billion, a deliberate choice reflecting capital raised to fund the Group’s investment programme.
Syed Basar Shueb, Chief Executive of IHC, characterised the milestone with evident satisfaction. Surpassing AED100 billion in revenue represented far more than a numerical achievement; it vindicated the company’s strategy of operating across interconnected sectors. He noted that the expansion of the international investment platform, combined with revenue growth across seven segments, demonstrated both the breadth and resilience of the businesses under IHC’s stewardship.
Looking forward, IHC emphasised discipline in capital allocation, committing to invest in sectors with demonstrable potential, access to strong management and pathways to sustainable value creation. The company signalled its intention to strengthen portfolio company performance, improve capital efficiency and develop what it termed Dynamic Value Networks, linking the Group’s capital, capabilities and operating expertise in ways that multiplied value across its holdings.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
IHC’s nine-month performance signals Abu Dhabi’s continued economic vitality and the maturation of a diversified economy. The holding company’s AED100.5 billion revenue milestone demonstrates that the emirate’s largest conglomerates are generating significant value across multiple sectors simultaneously, from energy to hospitality to real estate. This broad-based strength underpins Abu Dhabi’s resilience and its ability to absorb external pressures whilst sustaining growth.
The international expansion evident in IHC’s doubled international revenue reflects a broader shift in Abu Dhabi’s strategy: establishing the emirate’s companies as global players whilst generating returns that benefit the local economy. The company’s substantial liquidity position of AED76.6 billion in cash and bank balances provides capacity for further investment and growth, supporting Abu Dhabi’s vision as a centre for capital deployment and economic dynamism across the region and beyond.
