LODD Autonomous Secures Over 330 Aircraft Orders as Al Ain Emerges as Innovation Hub
The Abu Dhabi-based autonomous systems developer has signed more than 11 international agreements for its advanced Hili aircraft, with over 70 per cent of orders originating from outside the UAE.
Al Ain has established itself as a distinguished testing ground for next-generation air mobility technologies, according to Rashid Matar Al Manai, Chief Executive Officer of LODD Autonomous. Speaking at the Al Ain Future Business Forum, Mr Al Manai highlighted how the emirate’s robust infrastructure and innovation ecosystem have positioned it as an ideal location for advancing autonomous systems.
The development of LODD’s flagship Hili aircraft exemplifies Abu Dhabi’s competitive advantage in the technology sector. The hybrid vertical take-off and landing unmanned aircraft was developed in just 18 months—a timeframe that typically requires five to seven years in other international markets. This accelerated development reflects the emirate’s sophisticated regulatory framework, digital infrastructure, airspace management capabilities and communications systems.
The Hili aircraft represents a significant advancement in logistics innovation. Designed to transport payloads of up to 250 kilogrammes across distances of approximately 700 kilometres, the aircraft addresses critical gaps in middle-mile cargo operations. LODD’s development strategy emphasises sustainability, scalability and operational efficiency throughout the system.
Since its unveiling in September 2025, the Hili aircraft has attracted substantial international interest. LODD has executed more than 11 agreements with local and international partners, generating orders exceeding 330 aircraft. Notably, more than 70 per cent of these orders originate from entities beyond the UAE, demonstrating global confidence in both LODD’s technological capabilities and Abu Dhabi’s advanced technology ecosystem.
The company’s operational trajectory remains on schedule. Current operational testing is expected to conclude within two months, with technical testing targeted for completion by the end of 2026. A commercial trial phase is scheduled to commence in mid-2027, following which advanced air mobility services and wider international deployment will proceed upon demonstration of system effectiveness in Al Ain.
