UAE Team Emirates-XRG's Brandon McNulty secured second place at Italy's prestigious Coppa Agostoni, demonstrating impressive form in only his second outing as world champion.
American professional cyclist Brandon McNulty of UAE Team Emirates-XRG delivered a commanding performance at the Coppa Agostoni in Italy on Sunday, finishing second in what represents a notable achievement during his early tenure as road world champion. The result showcases McNulty’s continued competitive excellence whilst wearing the distinctive rainbow jersey of his newly-won world title.
The race unfolded with intense competition amongst an elite contingent of international riders. A decisive breakaway formed approximately 93 kilometres from the finish line, with McNulty establishing himself as a key protagonist within this leading group. The American maintained his position amongst the race’s foremost contenders as the distance diminished, remaining firmly placed with 80 kilometres of racing still remaining.
Paul Lapeira of Decathlon CMA CGM claimed the day’s honours, crossing the line in 3:51:44, whilst McNulty matched this time to secure second position. Andrea Raccagni Noviero of Soudal Quick-Step completed the podium in third place, also finishing on the winning time. The bunched finish demonstrated the closely-contested nature of this prestigious Italian classic.
McNulty’s performance represents an encouraging sign for the American rider as he adapts to the elevated expectations and heightened competitive intensity that accompany his new world champion status. Competing in only his second race since attaining cycling’s highest honour, the UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider has demonstrated the resilience and tactical acumen required to maintain his position amongst the world’s elite road cyclists.
