The National Media Authority (NMA) is taking part in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair to outline its role in regulating the media sector and to promote services that facilitate publishing activity. The Authority is using the fair to introduce publishers, writers and visitors to its licensing and media-content accreditation procedures, delivered in accordance with applicable media legislation.

The NMA says these services are intended to simplify the administrative steps required to operate in the publishing market, support sector growth, and contribute to higher-quality and more diverse content for readers in the UAE and beyond.

Engaging publishers and strengthening the creative economy

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Vice Chairman and Secretary‑General of the National Media Authority, described the publishing industry as a central pillar of knowledge production and of the creative economy. He said the Authority aims to boost competitiveness and expand opportunities by providing a regulatory and service environment that encourages investment, eases publishers’ operations and supports content development while maintaining compliance with the UAE’s media content standards.

Al Shehhi added that participating in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair allows the NMA to monitor developments in publishing, observe changes to the sector’s business environment and engage directly with industry professionals. The Authority intends to gather publishers’ feedback on their needs and challenges so it can refine services and procedures to keep pace with evolving methods of content production, publishing and distribution.

The NMA emphasised that the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair serves as a platform for increasing the visibility of publishing houses, opening new markets for their titles and building partnerships across translation, distribution and publishing rights. Such cooperation, the Authority said, helps to broaden ties between Emirati publishers and international counterparts.

Through its participation, the NMA signalled a continued commitment to close collaboration with publishers and cultural institutions, to supporting the enrichment of Arabic content and to reinforcing the UAE’s position as a destination for publishing and creative industries.
