The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority has connected 898 new projects to the grid in the third quarter of 2026, extending its network infrastructure and reinforcing the emirate's position as a thriving hub for residential, commercial and industrial growth.
The landscape of urban development across Sharjah continues to accelerate, with utility infrastructure keeping pace through a sustained programme of network expansion and technical excellence. During the third quarter of 2026, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority completed electricity connections to 898 projects spanning residential, commercial, industrial and service sectors throughout the emirate.
The breadth of this undertaking extends beyond mere connection numbers. SEWA’s Electricity Distribution Department extended its medium and low voltage networks by more than 99 kilometres during the same period, approved 640 electrical distribution boards in accordance with technical specifications, and conducted 1,119 technical inspections of buildings and projects. The department issued 524 preliminary electrical inspection certificates, streamlining the pathway for customers seeking completion certificates from the municipality.
Engineer Ahmed Al Bass, Deputy Director of SEWA’s Electricity Distribution Department, observed that these achievements reflect the directives of the nation’s wise leadership to sustain pace with Sharjah’s urban, industrial and commercial expansion. The work serves citizens, residents and investors with services calibrated to international standards of quality and efficiency, strengthening the emirate’s credentials as an environment of stability and opportunity for investment.
The connections themselves have been realised according to precisely scheduled timelines and adherence to the highest standards of safety and environmental sustainability. SEWA has integrated advanced digital technologies and intelligent control systems into its network infrastructure, designed to ensure rapid response times and enhance operational efficiency across the distribution system.
This expansion forms part of a broader infrastructure narrative. As we reported earlier, Sharjah’s power infrastructure has advanced with the commissioning of two new 33 kV substations and fifteen additional facilities under way to support growing energy demand. Meanwhile, SEWA completed 870 water connections across Sharjah in the same quarter, demonstrating the parallel momentum of water and electricity provision.
The Authority has emphasised the importance of continuous network upgrades and service enhancement, whilst urging all customers and developers to maintain strict adherence to approved technical standards and specifications. Such compliance ensures seamless connections that ultimately serve the broader interests of the nation and community.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
Sharjah’s expansion of its electricity infrastructure demonstrates the broader commitment across the Emirates to support rapid urban and economic growth with robust utility networks. The scale of quarterly connections reflects the scale of development occurring throughout the region, with implications for how neighbouring emirates approach their own infrastructure planning and digital integration.
The integration of digital technologies and smart control systems into Sharjah’s distribution network offers a model for efficiency and responsiveness. As all seven emirates navigate the challenge of providing world-class utilities to expanding populations and diversifying economies, the methodologies and standards demonstrated by SEWA’s approach contribute to collective knowledge and best practice across the UAE’s utilities sector.
