Rory McIlroy Returns to Emirates Golf Club for 2027 Hero Dubai Desert Classic

The world number two and six-time Major champion will compete in pursuit of a record-extending fifth Dallah Trophy at the prestigious tournament from 21–24 January.
The Hero Dubai Desert Classic stands poised to welcome one of golf’s most illustrious figures as Rory McIlroy confirms his participation in the 2027 edition of this venerable tournament. The World Number Two and career Grand Slam winner will return to Emirates Golf Club from 21–24 January in pursuit of a record-extending fifth Dallah Trophy, cementing his status as the competition’s most accomplished competitor.
McIlroy’s extraordinary recent achievements underscore his positioning at golf’s pinnacle. Having successfully defended his Masters title at Augusta National in April, he joined an exclusive fraternity as only the fourth player to claim back-to-back green jackets, an honour previously held by Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods. This triumph brought his Major championship tally to six, equalling Sir Nick Faldo’s achievement.
The Northern Irishman’s success extends beyond the majors. His recent triumphs include victory with Europe at the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, marking the continent’s first away victory since 2012, and securing his seventh Race to Dubai title, surpassing the legendary Seve Ballesteros. As the final weeks of the 2026 season unfold, he remains in contention for an eighth Race to Dubai title, which would equal Colin Montgomerie’s record.
McIlroy’s relationship with Dubai and the Hero Dubai Desert Classic spans two decades of extraordinary achievement. He made his competitive debut as a 16-year-old amateur in 2006 and claimed his first professional victory at Emirates Golf Club three years later, aged 19. He has since added further titles in 2015, 2023 and 2024, establishing himself as the tournament’s pre-eminent champion.
Speaking of his return, McIlroy expressed his profound affection for Dubai and the Emirates. ‘It’s been another incredible year, and to win the Masters again, this time with my parents there to share it with me, was very special. A memory I’ll cherish forever,’ he reflected. ‘I love coming to Dubai and the UAE, and I’ve always considered Dubai a second home. It’s where my professional career really started, and the Hero Dubai Desert Classic will always mean a lot to me. The support from the fans at Emirates Golf Club is always incredible, and I can’t think of a better place to start the year.’
Simon Corkill, Executive Tournament Director, expressed his enthusiasm for McIlroy’s return. The 38th edition of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic will feature an expanded entertainment offering, including Rooftop18, an expanded Dallah Lounge and additional entertainment, culinary and family activities throughout Tournament Town.
