SEWA Completes Maintenance Programme for 138 Substations Across Sharjah

The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority has successfully concluded scheduled maintenance on 138 33kV substations during the opening months of 2026, whilst advancing critical infrastructure development across the emirate.

The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has achieved significant progress in its infrastructure maintenance and development initiatives, completing scheduled maintenance on 138 33kV substations throughout the first half of 2026. The milestone represents a substantial commitment to sustaining the reliability and efficiency of Sharjah’s electricity transmission network.

Beyond routine maintenance operations, SEWA has reviewed and approved 367 engineering plans for new substation projects and broader electricity network enhancement, ensuring all proposals align with established technical standards and specifications. The Authority has also completed 25 technical studies addressing new consumer requirements and nine investigations into electricity transmission network improvements.

Engineer Hamad Al Teneiji, Director of the Energy Transmission Department at SEWA, emphasised that these comprehensive efforts form part of the Authority’s strategic vision to strengthen network reliability and optimise power transmission substations in accordance with international best practices. The work directly reflects the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, regarding the development of electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure across the emirate.

SEWA’s approach prioritises continuous monitoring and systematic assessment of electrical installations, coupled with proactive maintenance protocols that ensure sustained network stability. The Authority has adopted a preventive maintenance philosophy, supplemented by the exclusive use of high-quality, authentic spare parts to preserve equipment efficiency and longevity across all substations.

Engineer Abdullah Al Kous, Deputy Director of the Energy Transmission Department, outlined the broader maintenance roadmap encompassing 218 power transmission and distribution substations. A considerable portion of this comprehensive programme has already been completed, with remaining work progressing methodically according to an approved schedule whilst maintaining rigorous safety and quality standards throughout all operations.
