Shaikha Al Mazrou: Two Horizons

The atrium of the Cultural Foundation becomes a sculptural landscape this November, as Shaikha Al Mazrou’s solo exhibition opens to the city. Two Horizons is an immersive journey into the artist’s preoccupations: the qualities of materials themselves, the laws that govern gravity, and the subtle tensions that emerge between art and the spaces it inhabits.

The exhibition brings together works the artist has created over time alongside new commissions developed specifically for this setting. This interplay between the established and the conceived anew transforms the Foundation’s central space into something altogether different from its everyday self. Visitors are invited to move through an environment where sculpture and space engage in an evolving conversation, each reshaping how we perceive the other.

Al Mazrou’s practice emerges from careful observation of materials and their behaviour. Her cast brass works, oxidised to deep patinas, speak of time and transformation. The scale of these pieces, their weight, their presence in the room, all become part of their meaning. To experience them is to understand sculpture not as objects placed in space, but as forces that shape and redefine the spaces around them.

Two Horizons runs from 12 November 2026 through 18 July 2027 at the Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi.
