Sharjah Establishes Dedicated Committee to Address Residential Violations

The Sharjah Executive Council has formed a multi-agency committee to combat unauthorised housing and residential breaches across the emirate, unifying enforcement efforts among government departments.

The Sharjah Executive Council has established a specialised committee dedicated to addressing residential violations throughout the emirate, marking a significant step in strengthening regulatory oversight and inter-governmental coordination.

Chaired by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the Council meeting held at the Sharjah Ruler’s Office approved the formation of this enforcement body, which will be headed by the Chairman of the Department of Municipal Affairs.

The committee comprises representatives from key government agencies including Sharjah Municipality, the Public Prosecution, Sharjah Police, the Civil Defence Authority, the Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA), and the Economic Development Department. This integrated approach reflects the emirate’s commitment to unified monitoring and comprehensive regulatory compliance.

Operating across Sharjah’s cities, the committee will focus on combating unauthorised housing developments and residential transgressions. Its mandate encompasses standardising inspection procedures, strengthening collaboration between agencies, and monitoring residential properties and housing units to ensure landlords and tenants observe all applicable requirements and regulations.

By establishing consistent enforcement protocols, the committee aims to prevent practices that breach housing standards whilst ensuring transparent communication of penalties and legal measures applicable to violators. The decision also establishes formal provisions governing the committee’s responsibilities, membership tenure, reporting schedules and regulatory authority.

In related developments, the Council reviewed the fifth season launch of Sharjah Safari, which showcases over 120 animal species representing more than 50,000 specimens. The facility continues advancing its conservation mission through dedicated breeding programmes, which have produced more than 150 new births, including several rare species.

The safari’s integrated approach to visitor experience combines interactive activities with environmental education, whilst prioritising Emirati employment from the local community. The Council noted the facility’s commitment to measuring visitor satisfaction through systematic feedback mechanisms and performance evaluations, reinforcing Sharjah’s position as a leading ecotourism and environmental education destination.
