Sharjah Executive Council Advances Legislative Framework with Town Planning Law and Safety Training Initiative

The Sharjah Executive Council has approved a comprehensive draft law to strengthen town planning governance whilst simultaneously establishing a structured preventive training resolution designed to enhance occupational safety and community protection across the emirate.

Under the distinguished chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Executive Council convened for its weekly deliberations, wherein matters of considerable governmental significance were considered with a view to elevating the calibre of services extended to the emirate’s inhabitants.

A principal achievement of this session was the Council’s approval of a draft law establishing the regulatory framework for the Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey. This legislative instrument represents a meaningful advancement in the emirate’s commitment to modernising its legislative infrastructure, ensuring that regulatory provisions remain consonant with the region’s trajectory of development and expansion. The draft law shall be referred to the Sharjah Consultative Council for further deliberation and completion of the legislative process.

In parallel, the Council issued a comprehensive resolution concerning the organisation of preventive training activities throughout Sharjah. This resolution endeavours to create a structured architecture for such activities, thereby cultivating technical and human resource capabilities in the domains of prevention and safety. The initiative pursues multiple objectives of considerable public benefit, including the reduction of workplace and community accidents, the preservation of life and property, and the elevation of awareness amongst government employees, workers and community members regarding accident prevention methodologies and their significance for public safety.

The resolution establishes detailed responsibilities for Sharjah Police in realising these aspirations. These encompass the formulation and approval of regulatory standards for preventive training activities, the issuance of permits to accredited training institutes, and the evaluation of training personnel to verify their professional competence. Additionally, Sharjah Police shall develop comprehensive prevention and safety training programmes, establish strategic partnerships with governmental and international entities, and maintain rigorous oversight of training institutes to ensure service excellence and training efficacy.

The resolution further delineates the legal provisions governing preventive training, encompassing establishment classifications, training ratios, permitting procedures, and the obligations incumbent upon training institutes and establishment proprietors. These provisions collectively constitute a holistic framework designed to strengthen occupational safety standards, reduce accidents, and foster a culture of prevention and awareness throughout the emirate.
