Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub Forges Strategic Partnership with Chinese Academy of Sciences
The University of Sharjah's internationally recognised space research facility welcomes delegations from China's Innovation Academy for Microsatellites to explore collaborative opportunities in satellite technology and astronomical sciences.
The Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub at the University of Sharjah has welcomed a high-level delegation from the Innovation Academy for Microsatellites of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, marking a significant step towards deepening international scientific collaboration in the Gulf region.
Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Director of the Hub, received the visiting delegation to explore mutual opportunities for cooperation. The Innovation Academy specialises in the development and design of advanced microsatellite technology and related technical solutions, bringing considerable expertise to the discussion table.
During the visit, the Chinese delegation presented its technical capabilities and specialised satellite technologies to their Emirati counterparts. The exchange provided an opportunity for both institutions to examine the satellite projects currently being developed at SSAH and to identify areas where their respective expertise might complement one another.
Prof. Al Naimiy underscored the significance of such international partnerships, emphasising how collaboration strengthens the region’s commitment to scientific advancement. He highlighted the Hub’s dedication to fostering partnerships with leading regional and international research institutions. Through such strategic alliances, the Hub supports its core mission of advancing scientific research, development and innovation whilst simultaneously building capacity and expertise within the UAE’s space sector.
The delegation was afforded a comprehensive tour of SSAH’s facilities, gaining insight into the scientific and technical infrastructure available at the institution. They examined current projects and future initiatives spanning space science, technology and astronomy. The visit also included a presentation at the Sharjah Planetarium, where delegates learned about its vital role in cultivating scientific culture and broadening public understanding of space exploration and astronomical study.
The meeting reflected the UAE’s broader commitment to positioning itself as a hub for scientific excellence and international cooperation. By facilitating knowledge exchange between world-class research institutions, the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub continues to advance the emirate’s reputation as a centre for innovation and discovery.
