SNOC and Equinor forge strategic partnership to advance downstream energy capabilities

Sharjah National Oil Corporation and Norwegian energy company Equinor have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore collaborative opportunities across liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas liquids and petrochemical infrastructure.

Sharjah National Oil Corporation and Equinor ASA, the internationally recognised Norwegian energy company, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding of considerable strategic significance, establishing a collaborative framework to explore an expansive range of business opportunities throughout the downstream energy sector.

Under the terms of this partnership, the two entities will undertake a comprehensive assessment of potential cooperation spanning the storage, infrastructure, logistics, trading, supply and shipping of liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas liquids, alongside other refined oil and gas products. The agreement encompasses exploration of selected energy transition opportunities and the optimisation of petrochemical storage facilities throughout the United Arab Emirates.

Khamis Al Mazrouei, Chief Executive Officer of SNOC, observed that this collaboration represents a transformative development for the corporation, presenting an exceptional platform to pursue commercially astute opportunities across the gas liquids value chain. He emphasised that through the combination of complementary capabilities, expertise and shared strategic objectives, both entities are positioned to enhance the nation’s energy security, maximise the efficiency of existing infrastructure and contribute meaningfully to the continued advancement of the UAE’s liquefied petroleum gas sector.

Alex Grant, Senior Vice President Crude, Products and Liquids Trading at Equinor, noted that the partnership leverages SNOC’s established infrastructure advantages alongside Equinor’s equity volumes, trading excellence, comprehensive logistics capabilities and extensive access to international markets. This strategic combination, he observed, positions the companies to develop value oriented solutions that strengthen energy supply security for regional and international customers.

The agreement reflects an increasingly recognised reality within global energy markets: as international emphasis upon security, flexibility and resilience intensifies, investment in liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas liquids, storage and trading infrastructure assumes heightened importance. Strategic partnerships that unite infrastructure capabilities, market access and commercial expertise are anticipated to exercise a growing influence upon the trajectory of the downstream energy sector.

This accord encapsulates the mutual aspiration of both SNOC and Equinor to identify commercially compelling opportunities across the downstream value chain whilst furthering the UAE’s long-term objectives regarding energy security, infrastructure development and economic prosperity. The companies will engage in a methodical evaluation process, examining areas where their respective strengths and capabilities can catalyse the creation of enduring value for clients, investors and the broader energy sector.
