Sports Coordination Council Charts Course for Sector Excellence and Strategic Integration

Under the stewardship of the Minister of Sports, the Council convenes to fortify governance frameworks, unify data systems and advance the ambitions of the National Sports Strategy 2031.

The Sports Coordination Council has convened to advance the institutional architecture of the United Arab Emirates’ sporting endeavours, with particular emphasis upon strengthening the collaborative mechanisms that bind federal and local government entities in pursuit of shared objectives.

Presiding over the meeting, Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports, articulated the Council’s continued significance in fostering a more integrated and efficient national sports system. Through enhanced coordination among relevant stakeholders, the Council endeavours to elevate the readiness of the sector, ensuring it remains responsive to evolving developments whilst progressing steadfastly towards the aspirations enshrined within the National Sports Strategy 2031.

Central to the Council’s deliberations has been the advancement of regulatory frameworks and governance standards, coupled with a commitment to refining the accuracy and integration of sports data. Such endeavours prove instrumental in supporting informed decision-making and facilitating the judicious allocation of resources, thereby maximising both the social and economic benefits that sport continues to bestow upon the nation.

The delegation received particular encouragement from the UAE’s exceptional performance at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan, where the national team achieved a remarkable milestone. The nation secured 13 medals, comprising seven gold, five silver and one bronze, positioning itself 13th amongst 45 participating nations and second amongst Arab competitors. This historic achievement, particularly pronounced in jiu-jitsu, exemplifies the efficacy of carefully calibrated athlete development and preparation programmes.

The Council advanced discussion upon two significant initiatives designed to fortify the sector’s foundational infrastructure. The sports sector integration project and the establishment of a comprehensive national database of sporting facilities represent crucial investments in strategic planning and governance efficacy. Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports, emphasised the profound significance of these undertakings in augmenting coordination mechanisms and consolidating data sources.

Such alignment of the national sports agenda shall diminish scheduling conflicts, enhance the calibre of talent identification initiatives and foster deeper community participation. The establishment of unified electoral governance structures, including the proposed Unified Central Elections Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee, underscores a steadfast commitment to transparency and procedural integrity across the sporting landscape.

The Council further reviewed progress upon the National Readiness Programme and developments concerning UAE sporting representation at international forums and events, ensuring that mechanisms for representation remain robust and responsibilities clearly delineated.
