Sustaining the Regional Arts Ecosystem: A Conversation on Curation and Cultural Stewardship

The question of how to sustain a thriving arts ecosystem lies at the heart of cultural vitality, and we are invited to witness an exceptional gathering of minds as 421 Arts Campus hosts an illuminating panel discussion that promises to illuminate the complex interplay between regional artistic ambition and international cultural discourse.
Drawing together distinguished figures from across the curatorial and institutional landscape, the conversation will explore the multifaceted responsibilities that cultural institutions carry in supporting both established and emerging artistic voices. The panellists will delve into the mechanisms of arts patronage, the indispensable role of independent platforms in fostering creative expression, and the strategic approaches required to build world-class collections whilst remaining rooted in the regional context.
Among those gracing the discussion are Nawar Al Qassimi, Vice President of Sharjah Art Foundation; Faisal Al Hassan, Director of 421 Arts Campus; Vilma Jurkute, an independent culture strategist and academic researcher; and Dr. Stephanie Rosenthal, Director of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project. The conversation will be moderated by Mikey Muhanna, Founder and Executive Director of afikra, whose expertise in cultural discourse ensures a thoughtful and penetrating exploration of these vital themes.
The Localized Futures: Conversations series, presented in collaboration with afikra, represents a commitment to examining the nuances of sustaining artistic vitality within the region. Following the panel discussion, guests are invited to participate in an audience Q&A session, offering an opportunity for direct engagement with the speakers and fellow attendees who share a passion for cultural enrichment.
The event unfolds on 27 October from 6 PM to 8 PM, with free admission extended to all who wish to participate. The discussion will be conducted in English, with simultaneous Arabic interpretation graciously provided to ensure inclusive access to this enriching exchange of ideas.
