The Architecture of Connection

READY
Read by Emma, the Simply Abu Dhabi narrator.
What alchemy transforms a crowd into a gathering? The question sits at the heart of human experience, yet remains largely unexamined, a space where strangers become companions and the familiar becomes extraordinary through shared presence.
At 421 Arts Campus, artist and architect Nanelle Jayawardene explores this luminous territory through ‘Anatomy of Gatherings’, a visual lecture that traces the threads connecting us. From the intimacy of a shared meal to the warmth of welcome, from the dinner table to the theatre, she maps the infinite ways we come together, asking not merely how we gather, but what turns the act into something that matters.
The conversation moves beyond the mechanics of assembly to consider the invisible architecture that makes connection possible. It is the difference between proximity and presence, between occupying the same room and truly meeting one another. Through her lens as both artist and architect, Jayawardene considers how space, intention and human desire shape the gatherings that define our lives.
To attend is to leave with new language for understanding these moments, new ways to articulate why we seek one another out and how we continue to find fresh expressions of togetherness in an ever changing world.
The lecture takes place on November 5 from 6 PM to 8 PM.
