The Baghdad Modern Art Group: A Legacy of Artistic Experimentation

The Baghdad Modern Art Group: A Legacy of Artistic Experimentation

We are invited to contemplate the profound artistic achievements of twentieth century Iraq through a distinguished new exhibition at the NYUAD Art Gallery. ‘All Manner of Experiments: Legacies of the Baghdad Modern Art Group’ offers an intellectually enriching exploration of the artists, intellectual currents and creative investigations that fundamentally shaped the trajectory of modern art in Iraq.

The exhibition is curated by Dr. Nada Shabout, a preeminent scholar of modern and contemporary Arab art whose distinguished career has been devoted to the study and interpretation of Iraqi artistic traditions. Dr. Shabout’s extensive research and curatorial practice have established her as a leading authority on Iraqi art and its multifaceted histories, bringing scholarly rigour and profound insight to the exhibition.

This remarkable collection invites us to journey through a period of artistic innovation and intellectual ferment, examining how the Baghdad Modern Art Group’s experimental approaches and visionary ideas contributed to the development of modern artistic expression across the Arab world. The exhibition celebrates the courage, creativity and intellectual ambition of these pioneering artists.

The NYUAD Art Gallery welcomes all visitors to experience this significant cultural offering. The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 12 noon until 8 in the evening, and admission is complimentary. This represents an exceptional opportunity to engage with an important chapter in Arab artistic heritage and to appreciate the enduring legacy of experimental artistic practice in the region.
