The Honour of Excellence

There is a particular grace in the moment when a nation gathers to honour those who have represented it with distinction on the world stage. The UAE’s jiu jitsu athletes, returning from the Aichi Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan with medals secured through discipline and dedication, were received by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in recognition of their achievement.

The occasion brought together not merely the medallists themselves, but the technical and administrative staff whose labour behind the scenes had enabled these athletes to excel. It is a reminder that sporting triumph is never solitary; it emerges from the collective commitment of those who train, strategise and support.

His Highness offered his congratulations to the team, acknowledging both their determination and the rigour with which they had pursued excellence. In doing so, he affirmed the nation’s enduring commitment to the development of sport as a sector of cultural significance and international standing. The message was clear: this achievement was not an endpoint, but rather an affirmation of capability and an invitation to pursue further distinction.

For the athletes themselves, such recognition carries weight beyond ceremony. They spoke of the profound motivation that such support engenders, understanding that their pursuit of excellence is undergirded by a nation’s belief in their capacity to succeed. In competitive sport, this alignment between aspiration and support becomes a powerful catalyst for continued endeavour.

Mubadala, as exclusive sponsor of the national jiu jitsu team, has been instrumental in enabling this level of preparation and achievement, reflecting the private sector’s vital role in nurturing athletic excellence within the UAE.
