The Square: Dubai’s Evolving Destination Shaped by Community Vision

Great destinations are not designed in isolation, but rather shaped by the desires and experiences of those who inhabit them. The Square, having begun as a seasonal concept, has evolved into an integral part of Dubai’s cultural fabric, drawing more than 700,000 visitors during its previous season and inspiring the vision for something far more permanent and comprehensive.
Responding to the community’s embrace of the destination, Shamal Holding has committed substantial investment to establish The Square as a year-round haven in Nad Al Sheba. This evolution reflects a thoughtful understanding of what residents and visitors seek: greater variety in dining and entertainment, enhanced facilities for families, and compelling reasons to return throughout the calendar.
The reimagined Square now encompasses twenty distinct dining concepts, each offering its own character and culinary perspective. A substantial events arena spanning 24,000 square metres provides the canvas for cultural programmes, community gatherings and celebrations. To ensure seamless access, over 3,000 parking spaces have been thoughtfully integrated into the masterplan.
The destination’s official opening is being marked with particular distinction through Icons of Porsche, a ticketed event experience on 21 and 22 November, before The Square welcomes visitors daily from 23 November onwards.
This approach to destination development reflects a broader philosophy: that culture, community and everyday life flourish when woven together within generous open air environments. Rather than imposing a vision upon a city, Shamal Holding has chosen to invest in and amplify the ideas that residents themselves have embraced, creating spaces that grow organically with the community they serve.
