Trust, Governance and Collaboration Shape the Future of Finance and Artificial Intelligence

Thought leaders gathered in Dubai for the Annual Meetings of the Global Future Councils emphasise that responsible innovation and effective institutional frameworks will define how finance and AI contribute to global sustainable development.

The Annual Meetings of the Global Future Councils, convened in Dubai through a partnership between the UAE Government, the World Economic Forum and the Dubai Future Foundation, brought together distinguished officials and experts to examine the transformative forces reshaping the global economy and technological landscape. The discussions centred on two pivotal themes: the evolution of economic policy in an era of profound uncertainty, and the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into human society.

Within the session titled “Economics after Certainty,” speakers articulated a compelling consensus that future prosperity depends upon robust risk management, diversified economic strategies and institutional agility. The Prime Minister of Montenegro reflected upon the necessity of strengthening competitiveness and accelerating technological adoption whilst navigating inflationary pressures, positioning the UAE as an exemplary model of pioneering economic stewardship. The Chief Executive of Dubai Financial Market eloquently described how strategic diversification has enabled the UAE to double the size of its economy each decade, establishing itself as a preeminent global investment hub that bridges Eastern and Western commerce.

Speakers emphasised that rapid global transformation demands clearer economic forecasting, meaningful stakeholder engagement and the cultivation of financial resilience through flexible, data informed approaches. One distinguished academic from London Business School suggested that traditional measures of economic performance may eventually yield to indicators that more directly reflect how populations benefit from growth. A professor of finance from Yale University identified four dimensions of artificial intelligence uncertainty spanning the physical, psychological, regulatory and political domains, underscoring that whilst technology fundamentally transforms global conditions, it must ultimately strengthen meaning and opportunity within human lives.

The discussion of human and machine interaction revealed equally nuanced perspectives. A founder and principal researcher specialising in the design of robots and physical artificial intelligence stressed that trust forms the bedrock of human machine relationships, and that societies retain the capacity to direct automation towards beneficial purposes. Rather than permitting apprehension to impede progress, she envisioned artificial intelligence becoming seamlessly embedded within everyday environments and tools, rendering technology far more integrated into daily existence than conventional humanoid forms might suggest.

The emerging applications of robotics in industry, waste management and supply chain optimisation were highlighted as substantial innovations deserving greater recognition. Speakers advocated that artificial intelligence and robotics should enhance and augment human capabilities rather than displace them, thereby improving operational efficiency and systems performance across sectors.

Throughout the Meetings, a unifying theme emerged: the future trajectory of finance and artificial intelligence will ultimately be determined by the strength of collaborative frameworks, the sophistication of governance structures and the cultivation of public trust in these technologies’ contributions to sustainable and equitable development.
