Two Hundred Metres of Beach and No Bar: Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana
Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan stands at the point where about 33 kilometres of motorway from Zayed International Airport meet the western end of the Corniche. Etihad Towers is one kilometre away, Qasr Al Watan two, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque sixteen and Ferrari World twenty nine.
At the door the difference from every neighbour on this strip becomes apparent within a few minutes. Rayhaan is Rotana’s alcohol free brand, and this is its Abu Dhabi flagship: 443 rooms and suites, a private beach of two hundred metres, and a swimming pool the group counts among the largest in the capital.
The Corniche address
The hotel sits on Corniche Street in Al Khubeirah, at the quieter western end of the promenade, with Emirates Palace, Etihad Towers and Qasr Al Watan all within a short drive and the length of the Corniche running east from the gate.
Its two hundred metres of private sand place it in the small group of Corniche hotels with direct beach access rather than a shuttle to somebody else’s. The beach faces the Arabian Sea, and the western orientation is the reason the poolside bar is called Sunset.
The public promenade runs east from the gate for several kilometres of walkway, cycle path and open beach, so a guest who wants to walk the Corniche can do so from the door without crossing a motorway to reach it.
Four hundred and forty three rooms
Accommodation runs from classic and premium rooms through family categories to suites and apartments, with city and sea outlooks. Family and interconnecting rooms are available across the categories, and the family rooms are properly sized rather than a double with a folding bed pushed into it. Smoking rooms are offered subject to availability, which is worth settling at the point of booking either way.
Interiors are traditional in register, richly furnished, with the emphasis placed on space and comfort rather than on design statements. The sea facing rooms carry balconies looking along the Corniche, and the upper floors are worth asking for by name.
The apartment stock matters more than it first appears. Guests here routinely stay two and three weeks, which is rare at this level, and the longer stay categories exist because that demand is real rather than aspirational.
Kamoon, Horizon, Sunset and The Lounge
Four venues carry the dining. Kamoon serves Arabian cooking with a terrace and live entertainment through the evening. Horizon runs all day on international buffets and theme nights that travel from Asia to Europe and the Middle East. The Lounge is the lobby café, with beverages, snacks and freshly baked cakes and pastries. Sunset sits between the pool and the beach, serving light plates, sushi, ice cream, mocktails and fresh juices.
Horizon is also where breakfast happens, and the buffet is substantial enough that a family settling in for a fortnight can reasonably treat it as two meals. Because the property is alcohol free throughout, the evening register differs from its Corniche neighbours. Dinner here is a family occasion rather than a bar scene, and the kitchens accommodate dietary requirements with more willingness than is common at this level.

The pool, and Bodylines
The swimming pool is the property’s most conspicuous asset, with a separate children’s pool alongside it and full poolside service. On a strip where several five star hotels make do with a rooftop rectangle, the scale of the water here is the single fact most guests mention first.
Bodylines Fitness and Wellness Club provides the health offer: an equipped fitness centre, two group exercise rooms and two indoor squash courts. Two indoor courts is unusual provision on the Corniche, where hotels of this size commonly stop at a gym and a pair of treatment rooms, and the two studios mean classes can run without displacing the weights floor.
A massage centre handles treatments, and there is a ladies salon and a barber shop. Separate facilities are available, which matters to a share of the clientele and is part of the reason they return.
Children, at length
This is where the hotel is strongest. A dedicated kids club, a playground, an animation team, a children’s pool and an atmosphere in which children are entirely unremarkable make it one of the easiest five star addresses in the capital at which to install a family for a fortnight.
The animation team runs a programme through the day, and the children’s pool is a separate body of water rather than a shallow end, which is the practical difference between a family holiday and a fortnight of supervision.
Nine settings for events
Six indoor meeting rooms and three outdoor venues give nine settings in total, with a maximum of 140 guests per venue for a wedding. That allows a celebration to move from ceremony to dinner without leaving the property. The hotel is a standing choice for families who require an alcohol free venue as a matter of course, and it is worth saying plainly that this is a market position rather than a limitation.
Choosing along the Corniche
Set against its neighbours, the arithmetic is clear enough. The Sheraton on the eastern Corniche holds 279 rooms and provides cabanas without charge on its beach. The Radisson Blu, further west, has 11,000 square metres of sand and a wave pool. Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan brings 443 rooms, two hundred metres of beach, one of the largest pools in the emirate and no alcohol anywhere on the premises.
For a guest who would rather not stay somewhere with a bar, nothing else on this stretch of coast combines those elements. Ask for a high sea facing room and use the pool early.
