UAE and France Convene for Strategic Energy Forum at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure orchestrates high-level dialogue on sustainable energy cooperation, bringing together government officials, industry leaders and experts from both nations to explore pathways toward resilient and low-carbon energy systems.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in partnership with CCI France UAE, has orchestrated the UAE-France Energy Forum at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, convening a distinguished assembly of senior government officials, energy sector luminaries, specialists and stakeholders from both nations. Held under the auspicious theme of “Powering Tomorrow Together,” the forum represents a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation and cultivating fresh opportunities within the global energy landscape.

The gathering provides an elevated platform for strategic dialogue, knowledge exchange and business engagement, building upon the enduring energy partnership between the UAE and France and following a distinguished high-level UAE delegation’s visit to Paris in May 2025. Participants examined the evolving contours of global energy requirements and the imperative of balancing decarbonisation with energy security, economic competitiveness, technological advancement and dependable energy supply.

Eng Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasised that the UAE and France share an unwavering commitment to developing secure, resilient, competitive and progressively low-carbon energy systems. He noted that the forum translates this commitment into tangible cooperation by bringing together governmental authorities, industry pioneers, investors and research institutions. Collaborative opportunities span renewable energy, electricity infrastructure modernisation, energy storage solutions, nuclear capabilities, innovative technologies, oil and gas decarbonisation and strategic infrastructure supporting economic expansion and the energy transition.

Marie Audouard, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the UAE, affirmed that France stands prepared to support the UAE in strengthening the resilience and strategic autonomy of its energy infrastructure, together forging “a more secure, resilient, and low-carbon energy future.”

The forum featured three distinguished thematic sessions addressing pivotal priorities. The inaugural session, “Powering Resilience: Renewables, Grids, Storage & Strategic Energy Infrastructure,” examined the development of robust electricity systems capable of accommodating expanding renewable energy volumes whilst satisfying escalating demand. Discussion encompassed grid modernisation, energy storage technologies, renewable integration and infrastructure investment considerations. The second session, “Low-Carbon Solutions: Nuclear & Innovative Technologies Shaping Energy Sovereignty,” explored nuclear energy and progressive low-carbon technologies in advancing energy security and long-term resilience, fostering knowledge exchange between UAE and French stakeholders. The concluding session, “Oil & Gas: Carbon Footprint Reduction, CCS, Energy Security & the Future of Global Supply,” addressed emissions reduction, carbon capture and storage technologies, operational efficiency and innovation within the hydrocarbon sector.

Beyond thematic deliberations, the forum facilitated government-to-government engagements, business-to-business networking and strategic meetings, creating fertile ground for identifying potential partnerships throughout the energy value chain. The event underscored the indispensable role of sustained collaboration amongst governmental bodies, energy enterprises, infrastructure operators, technology providers, investors, financial institutions and academic research organisations in navigating the increasingly intricate requirements of the global energy transition.
