UAE Central Bank Governor Engages in Strategic GCC-IMF Economic Forum

Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, participated in a significant joint meeting of GCC Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors alongside Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, convened in Manama. The gathering took place under the oversight of Jasem Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The forum provided an important platform for senior policymakers to examine the evolving economic landscape affecting the broader Gulf region. Discussions centred on the economic outlook for GCC member states, with particular attention given to fiscal and monetary policy priorities in response to contemporary global economic developments and structural transformations reshaping international markets.
Participants engaged in substantive dialogue regarding mechanisms to enhance sustainable growth trajectories across the region. The agenda encompassed strategies for supporting economic diversification initiatives and fostering technological innovation as cornerstone elements of long-term prosperity. The deliberations culminated in a renewed commitment to sustained coordination and partnership between GCC countries and the International Monetary Fund. This alignment is to be achieved through the reinforcement of macroprudential frameworks, the advancement of sophisticated risk management tools, and the enhancement of transparency mechanisms governing fiscal and monetary policy implementation.
