WAM convenes with global media leaders at Beijing summit on artificial intelligence and digital transformation

The Emirates News Agency joined 500 representatives from across the globe at the 7th World Media Summit, where the international media landscape navigates the complexities and opportunities of the intelligent age.

Beijing hosted a convergence of international media expertise this week as the 7th World Media Summit drew together nearly 500 representatives from 330 media organisations, think tanks, government agencies and international bodies spanning 112 countries and regions. The Emirates News Agency participated in the opening ceremony of an event that has become the preeminent forum for examining the trajectory of global journalism and media practice.

Organised by Xinhua News Agency in partnership with the Beijing municipal government, the summit ran from 5th to 9th November under the banner “Media in the Intelligent Age: From Consensus to Action.” The theme reflects an industry at a critical juncture, where the acceleration of artificial intelligence capabilities has begun to reshape newsrooms, editorial practices and the fundamental nature of content creation and distribution.

The programme brought together media executives and thought leaders in high-level dialogues, plenary sessions and thematic forums designed to excavate the deeper questions facing contemporary journalism. Participants examined how digital transformation is reconfiguring the business models that sustain news organisations, how artificial intelligence might enhance or challenge journalistic integrity, and how international cooperation can foster standards and best practices across borders. The summit also hosted cultural activities and field visits, allowing delegates to observe Beijing’s media infrastructure and creative industries firsthand.

The World Media Summit, established in 2009, has evolved into an essential platform for media organisations seeking to exchange expertise, share technological innovation and collectively address the opportunities and challenges reshaping their industry. The breadth of participation this year underscores the urgency with which the global media community is engaging with questions of artificial intelligence, digital transformation and the future sustainability of quality news content.

Earlier this year, as we reported in our coverage of the Arab Youth Centre’s achievements, fifty young media professionals from across the Arab world completed intensive training in artificial intelligence, digital storytelling and information verification, signalling the region’s commitment to building expertise in these critical areas.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

The participation of the Emirates News Agency in this convening reflects the United Arab Emirates’ ongoing engagement with global conversations about media excellence, technological innovation and international cooperation. As media organisations worldwide grapple with the implications of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, the Emirates’ presence at such summits reinforces the nation’s position within international discourse on how technology shapes the future of journalism and information dissemination.

The themes examined at the Beijing summit resonate deeply with the UAE’s own trajectory. The nation has established itself as a nexus for media innovation and content creation, with institutions increasingly focused on digital transformation and the responsible integration of emerging technologies. The insights and partnerships forged at such international gatherings inform the strategies and standards that guide the Emirates’ media sector as it continues to evolve in the intelligent age.
