Where Culture Takes Root: A Literary Dialogue at Abu Dhabi International Book Fair

We find ourselves invited into a fascinating intellectual journey as the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair presents a distinguished literary dialogue that examines one of culture’s most profound questions: where, precisely, does culture begin?

Held as part of the Fair’s 2026 programme, this engaging session titled “Where Does Culture Begin?” unfolds as a thoughtful exploration into the genesis of cultural expression. The conversation delves into the question of how culture emerges and flourishes from the seeds of an idea or a meaningful human experience, tracing the pathways through which individual thoughts and lived moments transform into the broader cultural movements that shape our world.

The dialogue represents a collaborative endeavour between the Fair and the DCT Abu Dhabi Youth Council, bringing together minds committed to fostering intellectual discourse and nurturing the next generation of cultural thinkers. This partnership underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to creating spaces where young people can engage with profound questions about creativity, identity and the nature of cultural expression itself.

Such conversations prove invaluable in our contemporary moment, as we seek to understand the mechanisms through which human experience crystallises into cultural significance. By examining the origins of culture through literary dialogue, the Fair invites us to reflect upon our own roles as both creators and custodians of cultural heritage, and to recognise the profound ways in which personal reflection and shared experience contribute to the rich tapestry of human expression.

This thoughtful programming exemplifies the Fair’s dedication to offering more than a mere marketplace of books; it positions the event as a vibrant intellectual forum where essential questions about culture, creativity and human understanding can flourish and be explored in depth.
