World Triathlon Multisport Championships Abu Dhabi 2026 Opens Community Events to Residents and Visitors

The inaugural Middle Eastern hosting of the prestigious World Triathlon Multisport Championships will bring together elite international athletes and community participants across Hudayriyat Island this November, with dedicated family events and youth competitions welcoming all abilities.
Abu Dhabi is preparing to welcome the World Triathlon Multisport Championships to Hudayriyat Island from 13th to 22nd November 2026, marking the first time this prestigious global event will be held in the Middle East. The championships will see more than 4,000 athletes from across the world competing for world titles across six multisport disciplines, whilst the organising committee has ensured the occasion extends its cultural and sporting significance far beyond elite competition alone.
Recognising the profound opportunity such a momentous gathering presents to inspire and engage the wider community, the event organisers have crafted an inclusive programme that invites residents and visitors of all abilities to experience world championship athletics firsthand. On 21st November, community running events and the inaugural Hudayriyat NextGen Tri will provide an extraordinary opportunity for the public to participate on the same stage as international champions.
The community running calendar encompasses untimed 1km and 3km recreational courses designed for families and casual participants, alongside timed 5km and 10km competitive races. The Hudayriyat NextGen Tri introduces young people aged four to 16 to multisport competition across six age categories, with a Junior Relay event enabling teams of two or three to compete together in swimming, cycling and running disciplines.
Aref Al Awani, Secretary-General of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasised that whilst Abu Dhabi has established itself as a premier destination for major international sporting events, their enduring value extends profoundly into the fabric of community life. The collaboration between Modon and Abu Dhabi Sports Council seeks to strengthen public engagement with sport and encourage residents and visitors throughout the Emirates to embrace active, healthy lifestyles.
The Championships themselves reflect a commitment to environmental stewardship, incorporating comprehensive sustainability initiatives including a beach clean-up on Hudayriyat Island. Modon is pursuing Gold standard certification under the World Triathlon Sustainable Event Certification programme, underscoring the responsible management of this significant global occasion.
Bill O’Regan, Group Chief Executive at Modon, expressed the organisation’s conviction that community participation and environmental responsibility constitute the essential foundation of major event hosting. By creating pathways for residents and visitors to engage with world-class competition, the Championships offer an incomparable experience that transcends the elite sporting sphere.
Registration for all community events is now available, with participants encouraged to register promptly as places are limited. The official World Triathlon Multisport Championships Abu Dhabi 2026 application will provide comprehensive athlete tracking, essential event information and spectator guidance throughout the Championships.
