3Fils Abu Dhabi: Japanese Mastery Arrives at Al Bateen Marina

A Philosophy Scaled with Grace

When 3Fils established itself in Dubai, it forged an uncommon alliance: cuisine of genuine sophistication delivered without the formality that so often accompanies serious gastronomy. The Abu Dhabi edition, which opened in July 2025, amplifies rather than replicates this philosophy. Stretching across three floors at Al Bateen Marina, the establishment commands close to 200 seats and unveils expansive vistas across the harbour, yet its essence remains refreshingly straightforward. Guests arrive as they wish, walk in freely, and need not concern themselves with the reservation ledger.

The Vision of Jun Kamiyama

Head Chef Jun Kamiyama arrives bearing more than two decades of refined experience cultivated across Tokyo, Bordeaux and Paris, a trajectory that has woven Japanese precision with French technique and a panoramic international sensibility. This background proves instrumental to understanding 3Fils, which resists easy categorisation. It is not a sushi establishment, nor is it conventional fine dining in any traditional sense. The menu navigates with elegant fluidity between pristine sashimi, chargrilled seafood, wagyu preparations, artful sandos and delightfully conceived comfort dishes, all supported by premium ingredients flown from Japan twice weekly.

The Abu Dhabi kitchen commands particular distinction through signature creations that showcase the ingredient-first ethos. The chargrilled black lime baby chicken arrives perfumed with ponzu butter and sudashi, whilst the dessert repertoire includes an indulgent creation called Take Me to the Moon. Celebrated 3Fils signatures translate beautifully to the new setting: the wagyu sando presents wagyu in its most cosseting form, whilst otoro nigiri celebrates the fat belly of the finest tuna, and the distinctive karak ice cream offers a playful local flourish.

Recognition and Refinement

The capital establishment has scarcely had opportunity to find its rhythm, yet it has entered MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 at No. 42 and received a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand designation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi guide. MICHELIN commended the contemporary Japanese cooking, the chargrilled baby chicken and prawns, the delicate sashimi presentations, and the relaxed, luminous energy of the open kitchen concept.

This constellation of qualities explains the venue’s magnetic appeal. Here stands ambitious cuisine rendered without ceremony, serious cooking that wears its refinement lightly, and an atmosphere that celebrates nourishment as much as technique.
