UAE Council for Fatwa Showcases Institutional Excellence at Indonesia International Book Fair

The Council participates in Jakarta's prestigious literary event, launching Indonesian-language publications and demonstrating how modern technology serves Islamic jurisprudence and cultural exchange.
The UAE Council for Fatwa has brought its distinctive institutional approach to Islamic jurisprudence to the international stage, participating in the Indonesia International Book Fair 2026 held in Jakarta from 30th September through 4th October. The participation underscores the Council’s commitment to fostering moderate Islamic scholarship whilst strengthening the intellectual and cultural bonds between the Emirates and Indonesia.
At its pavilion, the Council unveiled three newly translated publications in Indonesian, making fatwa knowledge available to a broader Southeast Asian audience. These publications blend rigorous Islamic jurisprudential scholarship with an informed engagement with contemporary realities, presented in an accessible academic register designed for serious readers seeking authoritative guidance.
The fair provided an opportunity to introduce visitors to the Emirates Global Award for Fatwa Studies and Civilisational Ijtihād, recognition of the Council’s commitment to advancing Islamic scholarship of the highest calibre. The pavilion also demonstrated the Council’s digital fatwa services and interactive platforms, illustrating how technological innovation can make Islamic knowledge more widely accessible without compromising scholarly rigour.
A particular highlight was a virtual reality experience centred on the “Al Shawwaf Forum”, which celebrates the UAE’s rich heritage in lunar observation and the sophisticated methods developed for moon sighting. This immersive experience demonstrated how contemporary technology can serve to preserve and present national knowledge with both sophistication and cultural sensitivity.
The programme included two substantive academic seminars addressing the Council’s methodology in contemporary matters. These explored how Sharia principles, national legal frameworks, practical considerations and ethical dimensions are thoughtfully integrated in the formulation of fatwas, reflecting the Council’s evidence-based, contextually aware approach to Islamic jurisprudence.
The participation reflects the UAE’s broader vision of presenting Islam as a moderate, intellectually vibrant tradition capable of engaging meaningfully with the modern world whilst remaining grounded in authentic scholarship and spiritual wisdom.
