Hamdan Foundation Advances Healthcare Excellence Through Specialised Nutritional Management Training

A comprehensive workshop convened by the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences has equipped healthcare professionals with enhanced expertise in managing phenylketonuria through sophisticated nutritional interventions.
The Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences has orchestrated an exceptionally specialised training workshop entitled “Nutritional Management of Phenylketonuria (PKU)” at its headquarters in Dubai, bringing together a distinguished assembly of healthcare professionals to fortify their scientific knowledge and practical proficiency in addressing this significant inherited metabolic disorder.
Accredited by the Dubai Health Authority for three Continuing Professional Development hours, the workshop reinforced the Foundation’s commitment to advancing professional education and cultivating the competencies of healthcare practitioners throughout the emirate. The programme was delivered by Dr. Hanadi Algabeesh, Senior Clinical Dietitian at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, whose expertise illuminated the multifaceted dimensions of phenylketonuria management.
Phenylketonuria represents an inherited metabolic disorder wherein elevated phenylalanine levels in the bloodstream, absent appropriate clinical management, precipitate serious neurological and systemic health complications. The workshop examined the foundational principles governing nutritional management for PKU, with particular emphasis upon the formulation of meticulously tailored dietary plans and meal planning strategies calibrated to the distinct requirements of different age cohorts.
The comprehensive programme extended its scope to encompass the distinctive nutritional considerations attending children, adolescents and women during pregnancy, whilst simultaneously exploring the contemporary advancements in therapeutic options available to clinicians. Participants engaged with richly detailed practical case studies and interactive exercises centring upon meal planning methodology, food-label interpretation and the precise estimation of daily nutritional requirements, thereby substantially strengthening their capacity to deliver sophisticated nutritional care to patients.
Dr. Salama Al Muhairi, Director of the Medical Excellence Department at the Foundation, articulated that the workshop furnished invaluable opportunities for continuing professional education and the meaningful exchange of specialised knowledge and expertise among colleagues. The programme directly addressed the key practical challenges encountered by healthcare professionals navigating complex PKU management scenarios, whilst examining and disseminating effective strategies for nutrition education and comprehensive patient and family support initiatives.
The workshop further underscored the paramount importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in maintaining continuity of care and achieving optimal health outcomes, reflecting the Foundation’s unwavering dedication to elevating standards of medical practice and patient wellbeing throughout the United Arab Emirates.
