A Visual Journey Through Al Maryah Island’s Transformation

We are invited to embark upon a captivating visual journey through time as the National Library and Archives, in gracious collaboration with the Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Al Maryah Island, presents an extraordinary exhibition that illuminates the island’s remarkable transformation across the decades.

This immersive collection brings together archival photographs and contemporary imagery, creating a compelling narrative of urban development that spans pivotal moments in the island’s history. The exhibition offers guests a rare opportunity to encounter photographs presented to the public for the first time, each one a precious document of Al Maryah Island at different junctures in its evolution.

As we move through the carefully curated displays, we witness the profound architectural and urban metamorphosis that has shaped this destination into one of Abu Dhabi’s most vibrant and coveted locales. The photographs serve as eloquent testimonies to the vision, ambition and meticulous planning that have guided the island’s development, revealing the layers of transformation that have occurred beneath its resplendent modern facade.

This visual exhibition transcends the mere documentation of buildings and infrastructure. It is, in essence, a meditation on progress and place, an elegant articulation of how thoughtful development can honour a location’s essence whilst propelling it into an accomplished future. Through these images, we discover not simply the story of an island, but rather a chapter in the broader narrative of Abu Dhabi’s remarkable urban journey.

The exhibition stands as a testament to the National Library and Archives’ vital role as custodian of the emirate’s collective memory, preserving and presenting the visual heritage that enriches our understanding of how Abu Dhabi has evolved into the sophisticated, forward thinking destination we know today.
