National Media Authority Convenes Strategic Dialogue with International Media Partners

The National Media Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering transparent partnerships with the global media community, emphasising constructive dialogue and mutual understanding of the UAE's distinctive achievements and values.

The National Media Authority has orchestrated a significant engagement with representatives of international media organisations, underscoring a philosophy of openness, direct partnership and transparency. Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Authority, articulated the institution’s foundational belief that journalists’ inquiries and observations merit respectful consideration and substantive response.

In an address to assembled international correspondents and media leaders, Al Hamed articulated a vision of partnership rather than regulatory oversight. He emphasised that the Authority exists fundamentally to serve media organisations and remains receptive to questions, observations and requests from those seeking engagement. This approach reflects a conviction that robust, professional journalism flourishes through candid dialogue, enabling differences to transform into pathways toward greater understanding and continuous improvement.

The dialogue session, which included Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee at the Federal National Council, addressed the evolving media landscape and the sector’s trajectory amid technological and societal transformation. Discussions centred upon bridging communication channels and establishing direct dialogue mechanisms that serve mutual professional interests.

Al Hamed articulated the Authority’s aspiration to cultivate relationships characterised by forthrightness and collaborative engagement. He positioned the National Media Authority as a bridge to factual understanding rather than a barrier to truth, inviting journalists to engage constructively with institutional challenges and to participate actively in discussing solutions. This philosophy reflects recognition that transparency encompasses willingness to address difficult questions with clarity and responsibility.

The National Media Authority is developing a Charter on Journalists’ Rights and Duties in the UAE, conceived as an ethical framework responding to contemporary shifts in the media environment. The charter seeks to safeguard journalistic freedom, strengthen institutional trust and elevate professional standards whilst serving as a professional reference rather than a legal constraint.

Dr Al Nuaimi reinforced the UAE’s positioning of international correspondents as valued partners within the national community. He stressed the significance of ensuring media coverage reflects comprehensive understanding of the UAE’s distinctive trajectory, its investment in human capital and its foundational commitment to coexistence, respect and multicultural acceptance. He observed that singular focus upon regional dynamics, without accounting for the UAE’s unique development experience and achievements, risks producing conclusions incongruent with lived reality.

International media representatives acknowledged the session’s openness and transparency, recognising the value of substantive engagement in deepening comprehension of the UAE’s context. Participants explored questions spanning regulatory frameworks, journalistic standards, artificial intelligence’s implications for journalism, misinformation mitigation and verification methodologies.

The Authority’s engagement efforts reflect commitment to maintaining the UAE’s position as a leading destination for international media organisations, whilst fostering media environments characterised by maturity, responsibility and factual accuracy. These initiatives seek to ensure journalists possess the information and contextual understanding necessary to fulfil their professional responsibilities with independence and efficacy.
