Abu Dhabi Culture Celebrates Hassan Sharif’s Pioneering Legacy at Frieze London

We return to one of the world’s most distinguished art fairs as Abu Dhabi Culture assumes its position as an official partner of Frieze London, bringing with it a pavilion devoted to the transformative legacy of Hassan Sharif, a luminary whose experimental vision fundamentally shaped the contemporary art landscape of the United Arab Emirates.

Sharif’s work stood as a declaration of artistic independence, challenging established conventions and nurturing an experimental scene that would come to define the nation’s cultural identity. His contributions to contemporary art remain a testament to the power of creative vision and intellectual courage.

The presentation at Frieze London showcases works drawn from two of Sharif’s most significant and defining series: ‘Objects’ and the ‘Semi-Systems’. These works exemplify his distinctive approach to art making, combining conceptual rigour with a profound engagement with materiality and form. Together, they offer a compelling introduction to the breadth and sophistication of his artistic practice.

We invite you to visit the Abu Dhabi Culture Lounge at Frieze London, where you may discover more about this remarkable artist and his indelible influence on the region’s artistic trajectory. The presentation honours not only Sharif’s contributions to contemporary art, but also Abu Dhabi’s commitment to supporting and celebrating the pioneering voices that have shaped cultural expression across the Emirates.
