FNC and German Bundestag Forge Deeper Parliamentary Partnership

The Federal National Council and German legislators convene to strengthen institutional cooperation across defence, economy and regional security.
Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federal National Council, welcomed a distinguished parliamentary delegation from the German Bundestag at the FNC headquarters in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. The encounter brought together legislators committed to deepening the institutional bonds between the United Arab Emirates and the Federal Republic of Germany.
The German delegation encompassed Dr. Norbert Röttgen, substitute member of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees, and Alexander Radwan, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the Arabic-Speaking States of the Near and Middle East. The gathering reflected the burgeoning momentum in bilateral relations, particularly following President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s transformative visit to Germany in September, which established the UAE-Germany Strategic Dialogue as a formal institutional framework.
The discussions traversed a comprehensive spectrum of cooperation. Both delegations emphasised the necessity of strengthening parliamentary coordination, intensifying communication channels and facilitating the exchange of legislative expertise to elevate the strategic partnership. Particular attention centred upon the substantial economic and investment opportunities emerging across clean energy, hydrogen innovation, artificial intelligence and advanced technological sectors, with both sides recognising the imperative of enhanced coordination through participation in parliamentary forums to facilitate commerce and trade relations between the UAE, Germany and the European Union.
Cultural, scientific and educational advancement featured prominently throughout the dialogue. The legislators underscored the invaluable role that academic and cultural institutions play in cultivating mutual understanding, bridging communities and fostering the exchange of knowledge that enriches both nations.
Regional and international security received concentrated examination, with particular emphasis upon developments within the Gulf and Middle East. The delegations discussed the intricate interconnection between regional stability and European security interests. They unanimously affirmed the primacy of addressing conflict’s underlying causes, upholding international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and advancing dialogue and preventive diplomacy as instruments for peace. Both sides recognised parliaments’ distinctive capacity to champion peaceful endeavours and counteract the divisive forces of extremism and polarisation.
The meeting further considered the security of vital maritime passages, including the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al-Mandab Strait, acknowledging their significance for global energy security, supply chain integrity and international commerce. Both delegations stressed the imperative of safeguarding maritime navigation freedom through adherence to international law and strengthened international cooperation.
