Performance as Philosophy: A Seminar on Ideas Through Action

At 421 Arts Campus, we believe that the boundaries between intellectual inquiry and artistic expression need not be rigid. Performance, in its most fundamental form, becomes a means through which ideas transform into lived experience, offering participants a profound opportunity to engage with concepts through their voices and bodies.
This seminar, led by artist and facilitator Yoonsik Chico Park, invites you into an immersive exploration of performance as both practice and philosophy. Rather than remaining theoretical, the day unfolds as a journey from contemplation into action. We begin with discussion and readings that frame the philosophical underpinnings of performance, establishing a foundation upon which practical understanding can flourish.
The seminar then transitions into embodied exercises, where participants discover how meaning emerges through vocal expression and physical presence. This is not a conventional workshop bound by professional requirements or prior experience. Instead, it welcomes anyone curious about the relationship between performance and meaning making, regardless of their background.
Throughout the day, you will investigate a central question: what can performance teach us about our world? This inquiry extends beyond the stage into the realm of everyday communication, social interaction and the ways in which we collectively construct understanding. By engaging your whole self in this exploration, you gain insight into how performance functions as a profound tool for connection, expression and the articulation of complex ideas.
The seminar takes place on 25 October from 11 AM to 4 PM. Registration is available for all those wishing to participate in this distinctive cultural experience.
