flydubai Opens State-of-the-Art Aircraft Maintenance Centre at Dubai South

The airline's senior leadership tours the purpose-built facility nearing completion, marking a transformative investment in operational capability and aviation talent development.
flydubai’s executive leadership, including Chief Executive Officer Ghaith Al Ghaith, has undertaken an official inspection of the airline’s forthcoming Aircraft Maintenance Centre at Dubai South, a milestone moment in the carrier’s ambitious expansion programme. The facility, situated within the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub, represents a substantial capital commitment to operational self-sufficiency and long-term capability building.
The 32,600-square-metre purpose-built complex, which commenced construction in 2025, is progressing towards scheduled completion by the end of the year. Following this phase, an extensive operational readiness and technical commissioning period will precede full operational status in the first quarter of 2027. The investment programme, valued at US$190 million, reflects flydubai’s strategic confidence in Dubai’s continuing prominence as a global aviation and logistics destination.
The state-of-the-art facility has been meticulously designed to serve flydubai’s expanding modern aircraft fleet. Its comprehensive infrastructure encompasses dedicated heavy maintenance hangars, specialised engineering support workshops, materials management warehousing and extensive administrative capabilities. Upon commencement of operations, the centre will employ 400 highly skilled technical professionals, substantially enhancing the airline’s operational resilience and quality control measures.
By bringing maintenance operations in-house, flydubai will achieve streamlined turnaround times and superior fleet availability whilst reducing dependency on external service providers. The centre represents a cornerstone within Dubai’s broader aviation ecosystem, particularly in support of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to establish Dubai as a world-leading aviation and logistics capital.
The project is intrinsically linked to flydubai’s expansion trajectory. The airline currently operates a network encompassing more than 125 destinations and maintains more than 300 aircraft on order. These include 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners scheduled for delivery from early 2028, with 11 Boeing 737 aircraft expected in 2026, bringing the fleet total to 100 aircraft.
The development will further strengthen flydubai’s commitment to nurturing aviation engineering talent through its existing Engineering Apprentice Programme. By establishing comprehensive in-house technical facilities adjacent to Al Maktoum International Airport, flydubai continues to advance Dubai’s vision of creating an integrated, world-class aviation infrastructure.
