Näss: A Choreographic Journey Through Moroccan Pulse

There is a particular magic that emerges when an artist returns to the landscape of their origins, when memory and movement converge to create something transcendent. Näss, a choreographic work by Fouad Boussouf, embodies precisely this alchemy. Drawing from the nuanced textures and chromatic richness of his native Morocco, Boussouf has woven urban dance styles into a singular, immersive experience that moves beyond mere physical expression into something approaching the spiritual.
The work takes its visual language from the details and colours of Morocco itself. During the company’s time rehearsing there, they absorbed the true pulse of the piece, allowing the choreography to emerge from the very soil of its inspiration. What unfolds on stage is a seamless interweaving of urban dance forms, each movement flowing into the next within a grand, trance-like experience. There is contemplation in the rhythm, a meditative quality that invites the viewer into a state of profound absorption.
The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi brings this important work to the Red Theater on Friday, 30 October at 7:30pm, offering audiences the opportunity to witness a choreographer at the height of his creative vision. The presentation is supported by Dance Reflections by Van Cleef and Arpels, a cultural initiative dedicated to fostering exceptional artistic expression through dance.
