Sharjah Charity International dispatches 140 tonnes of winter aid to Gaza

Sharjah Charity International dispatches 140 tonnes of winter aid to Gaza

Under the 'Warm Winter for Gaza' campaign, Sharjah Charity International airlifts essential supplies including winter clothing and food to Palestinian families as part of the UAE's sustained humanitarian response.

At Sharjah International Airport’s Cargo Village, a substantial shipment taking shape represents far more than logistics and tonnage. Some 140 tonnes of winter clothing, blankets and food supplies awaited dispatch aboard a cargo aircraft, destined for families across the Gaza Strip facing the approaching cold season. The moment reflects the measured, purposeful commitment the UAE extends to the Palestinian people.

Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sharjah Charity International, inspected the relief aid on 1st November. The shipment forms part of the ‘Warm Winter for Gaza’ campaign, implemented in cooperation with Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, the UAE’s broader humanitarian framework launched in 2023.

In remarks to the Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi expressed appreciation for the continued support extended by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Palestinian people. He underscored that the campaign reflects presidential directives to intensify humanitarian efforts and meet the needs of residents experiencing hardship.

The winter clothing initiative represents one strand of a broader engagement. As we reported in our coverage of Sharjah Charity International’s AED177.7 million monthly assistance programmes, the organisation has sustained its commitment to vulnerable populations across multiple geographies.

Hamoud Al Afari, Director of UAE Relief Operations under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, affirmed that shipments continue to depart from Sharjah Airport in cooperation with the charity. The winter clothing initiative aims to reach one million Palestinian beneficiaries through provision of protective garments and blankets. Al Afari noted that total UAE humanitarian assistance delivered to Gaza has exceeded 136,000 tonnes, representing approximately 46% of all international aid provided to the territory, valued at an estimated USD 4.3 billion.

Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, Executive Director of Sharjah Charity International, explained that the association is contributing approximately 50,000 pieces of winter clothing for various age groups, alongside heating supplies and winter blankets. These contributions stem from philanthropists among UAE citizens and residents.

The initiative, Khadim noted, embodies the values of solidarity and compassion the UAE seeks to promote, while providing essential winter support to affected families facing difficult humanitarian conditions.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

The scale of UAE humanitarian engagement in Gaza reflects the nation’s strategic commitment to supporting vulnerable populations beyond its borders. With relief assistance exceeding 136,000 tonnes and accounting for nearly half of all international aid to the territory, the UAE reinforces its position as a substantial humanitarian actor on the global stage, embodying the leadership vision articulated by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

For Abu Dhabi residents and the broader UAE community, initiatives like the winter campaign demonstrate how the nation’s philanthropic infrastructure translates values into measurable assistance. Through contributions from citizens and residents, as well as the operational coordination of established entities, the UAE continues to extend compassionate support during critical periods when vulnerable families require protection from harsh seasonal conditions.
