Dubai Municipality opens registration for its flourishing community marketplace, welcoming local entrepreneurs and productive families to showcase their wares through winter, with new cultural experiences and interactive entertainment for all ages.
The winter markets return to Dubai’s public spaces. Souk Al Freej, the annual community initiative that has become synonymous with supporting local enterprise and enriching neighbourhoods, opens its fifth season with fifty complimentary stalls for entrepreneurs, small business owners and productive families to display and market their creations.
The marketplace will inhabit three cherished parks across the season, each location hosting the venture for roughly a week and a half. Proceedings commence at Nad Al Sheba Rose Garden from 11th to 20th December 2026, shifting thereafter to Al Barsha Pond Park from 25th December 2026 through 3rd January 2027, before concluding at Al Warqa Park from 8th to 17th January 2027. Each evening, the markets welcome visitors from 16:30 until 22:00.
Of the fifty available stalls, ten are designated for supporting activities, offering food and beverage kiosks that animate the experience. Participating vendors will present locally made goods spanning homemade delicacies, handicrafts, fashion pieces and sustainable products, each representing the skills and imagination of Dubai’s creative community.
This season brings expanded cultural dimensions to the marketplace. An “Asian Village Experience” introduces Asian-inspired design, cuisine and cultural programming, whilst a dedicated Gen Z zone caters to younger visitors. Free-play areas for children and interactive workshops for multiple age groups weave creative engagement throughout the venue. A zipline offers exhilaration, and an interactive treasure hunt encourages visitors to navigate the market and engage directly with entrepreneurs through a series of challenges and competitions.
Mohammed Abdulrahman Ahli, Director of the Public Parks and Recreational Facilities Department at Dubai Municipality, described Souk Al Freej as a comprehensive destination that transcends traditional shopping. “The initiative provides entrepreneurs, small businesses and productive families with organised spaces to showcase their products, communicate directly with the public and expand their customer base,” he noted. Dubai Municipality, as demonstrated through recent ventures such as Work From Park at Al Barsha Pond Park, continues to reimagine public parks as multifaceted community destinations.
The marketplace reflects the broader municipal vision of activating public spaces and enriching the quality of life by combining shopping, entertainment and cultural activity. Each season brings refined programming and experiences designed for families, children and young people, enhancing the vibrancy of public spaces throughout Dubai.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
Souk Al Freej exemplifies a regional approach to urban development that places community entrepreneurship and public space activation at the heart of city life. The model of transforming parks into dynamic marketplaces while supporting local business demonstrates how public institutions across the emirates can foster economic opportunity for small enterprises and productive families.
The initiative’s emphasis on combining commerce with cultural experiences, entertainment and family engagement reflects a sophisticated understanding of how communities thrive when public spaces serve multiple purposes. As Dubai continues to evolve its relationship with public parks, the approach offers insights into creating vibrant, inclusive destinations that strengthen social cohesion and economic resilience.
