UAE Commends United States Leadership in Advancing Sudan Peace Initiatives
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, has welcomed Washington's renewed commitment to securing a humanitarian truce and political dialogue in Sudan, whilst calling for expanded international measures to protect civilians.
The United Arab Emirates has expressed strong support for the United States’ comprehensive approach to resolving the ongoing crisis in Sudan, welcoming recent diplomatic statements that prioritise both immediate humanitarian relief and longer-term political stability.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, praised the U.S. administration’s efforts to address the humanitarian and security dimensions of the conflict. He particularly commended President Donald Trump’s leadership in preventing Sudan from experiencing further deterioration through extremism and fragmentation, noting the administration’s determination to avert a deepening humanitarian catastrophe affecting millions of civilians.
The Minister highlighted the significance of calls for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce, alongside commitments to foster comprehensive political dialogue. Such measures, he indicated, represent essential steps toward establishing a transition to civilian-led governance structures that could ultimately restore stability to the nation.
Sheikh Shakhboot also recognised the diplomatic contributions of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Dr. Massad Boulos, U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, acknowledging their efforts to encourage all parties to the conflict to cease hostilities and strengthen prospects for achieving a negotiated political settlement.
Reaffirming the UAE’s consistent position on the matter, the Minister emphasised his nation’s unwavering commitment to supporting international endeavours aimed at terminating the conflict and alleviating the profound suffering experienced by the Sudanese people. The Emirates, he stressed, remains committed to collaborating with international partners toward a sustainable political solution.
Beyond immediate peacekeeping measures, Sheikh Shakhboot called for strengthened international mechanisms to protect civilians and prevent further escalation. He specifically advocated for an expansion of the existing United Nations arms embargo to encompass Sudan’s entire territory, characterising such measures as essential prerequisites for halting hostilities and safeguarding vulnerable populations.
